An Alamo Drafthouse Movie Theater Is Opening in Boston

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain, which is based in Austin, has announced plans for its first theatre in New England. The Alamo Drafthouse Boston Seaport has 10 screens and about 767 seats. It will show a mix of first-run movies and other types of shows.

Alamo Drafthouse Boston Seaport will also have a 35mm changeover projection, so both old and new movies can be seen on celluloid. This is part of the company’s commitment to keeping 35mm alive.

The Press Room, a full-service bar, will also be part of the Alamo Drafthouse Boston Seaport. The Press Room has cocktails, wine, and local craft beers on tap, and it is also a printing museum and working letterpress print shop.

There are more than 10,000 old movie ad plates from the 1930s to the 1980s on display. The new theatre will be at 60 Seaport Blvd. in the new Seaport Square building on the South Boston Waterfront. The Alamo Drafthouse Boston Seaport should open in the beginning of 2023.
