It’s been a long time since the first season of Alice in Borderland, based on the popular manga series of the same name, debuted. We were introduced to a parallel Tokyo where strangers competed against each other in deadly games of intelligence, brawn, and deceit.
An emotional roller coaster, it soon became a fan favorite and was picked up for a second season after debuting in the top 10 of Netflix’s global rankings in over 40 countries and territories.
Below we have mentioned all the latest information we have about Alice in Borderland Season 2.
Alice in Borderland Season 2 Expected Release Date
The second season of Alice in Borderland is scheduled to broadcast in December of 2022. As a result, there’s still some time to go before you can binge-watch it over the holidays!
Number of Episodes in Alice in Borderland Season 2
The first season of the anime has covered about 31 chapters in the manga, leaving 33 chapters unexplored. It’s possible that we’ll see a second season that’s as long as the first. Don’t be shocked, though, if Netflix has pushed on a lengthier run of episodes for Alice in Borderland Season 2, given the enormous popularity of the first season.
Alice in Borderland Season 2 Expected Cast
Even though the returning cast has yet to be announced by the show’s creators, IMDb reports that the series’ stars Kento Yamazaki as Arisu and Tao Tsuchiya as Usagi are confirmed, along with recurring characters Kuina, Kizuna, and Shuntaro. The role of “gamemaster” Mira Kano, played by Riisa Naka, will be another interesting one to keep an eye on in Season 2.
Alice in Borderland Season 2 Trailer
Only a brief teaser has been released thus far, and it doesn’t reveal much. The teaser, which was released on Christmas Eve 2020, simply confirms that a second season of the show is in the making. If you haven’t watched it, you can watch it below.
Alice in Borderland Season 1 Storyline
Arisu, a gaming-obsessed youngster, is thrust into a deadly competition in an abandoned Tokyo. An unseen power is directing Arisu and his two pals to take on a series of challenges, each one designated by the suit and number of a playing card.
When Arisu’s pals died during one of the games, he met a young woman, Usagi, and joined her in solving the mystery at hand in order to acquire all of the available playing cards.
The final test for the Ten of Hearts results in many deaths, but Usagi and Arisu discover an underground room where they find the “gamemasters,” who they had assumed to be dead. Afterward, they meet Mira, who tells them that the games have just begun and that the face cards are now at stake.
Alice in Borderland Season 2 Plot
Considering how much the final episode of Season 1 expanded the scope of the show, anything is possible! This means that the quest for the last cards will likely lead Arisu and Usagi into conflict with Mira Kano, the Queen of Hearts who was revealed late in season 1.
Shinsuke Sato, Director of the show said, “I will draw a mysterious world no one has ever seen and an unexpected development with uncompromising images.”
Locations Where Alice in Borderland Season 2 Is Shot
Alice in Borderland is filmed all throughout Japan, including the “Kanto area, Toyama, Hyogo, Fukuoka, Aichi, Osaka and Wakayama,” according to Robot Communications Inc. The filming of the show has already been completed. Perhaps we’ll soon see some early previews or teaser clips of the upcoming season.
While You Await Alice in Borderland Season 2, Here Are Some Options to Pass the Time
There’s a lot to see on Netflix until December, including the South Korean drama Squid Game, which has become a global sensation thanks to its success on the streaming service. As Netflix’s first push into non-English content, both shows have an identical “winner takes all” premise and a flare for the melodramatic, making comparisons easy.
This type of story, however, is nothing new, there are a plethora of others like it. Battle Royale, a horrific film by prolific director Kinji Fukasaku, is one of the genre’s most lauded examples. There is only one survivor in a dystopian future world where entire high school classes are forced to fight to the death.
Cube, a Canadian horror film from the ’90s that inspired a franchise, including a Japanese remake in 2021, is another example of a similar feature film. They must work together to get out and solve the riddle of why they’ve been brought together, while simultaneously avoiding the traps and getting out of the robotic cube-like structure.
