Avatar 2 Release Date Status Confirmed, Trailer Is Finally Out!

Avatar 2

Avatar 2

For the past week, a trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water has been available solely to ticket holders of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Fortunately, Disney has released the whole trailer online after a limited theatrical exclusivity period. Dec. 16 is the date for the release of Avatar 2, which features Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana as characters from the previous film.

Kate Winslet and Michelle Yeoh will join the cast of Avatar 2 in addition to some of the movie’s other returning cast members, such as Sigourney Weaver and Giovanni Ribisi. It’s easy to see why several of these players described working on the set less than favorably in this little preview of the movie.

Disney is re-releasing the original Avatar in theatres on September 23rd to help you prepare for The Way of Water. At least five Avatar films are planned by director James Cameron, who has previously stated that he is already filming several of them. From now until 2028, a new film will be released every other year.

When is Avatar 2 Coming Out in Theatres?

Due to the growing global health crisis, Avatar 2 will be released on December 16, 2022, rather than December 20, 2021, as originally planned. A blend of live-action and motion-capture elements has necessitated a lengthy production time for the sequel, which began filming in 2017. Cameron said in September 2020 that Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 were both “complete” and “around 95 percent finished,” respectively.

In April 2022, Cameron stated that he was “putting the final touches” on the sequel, thus a December release appears to be a lock. FINALLY. Because we have three more films to come, Cameron has been working on all of them recently. As a result of the youthful actors in Avatar 4, he announced that he’d already shot portions of the film in December 2021.

It was a lot of fun working on scenes 2 and 3 together, as well as some of 4,” he said to Variety. “I had no choice except to shoot the children. During the plot on page 25 of movie 4, they are allowed to age six years. As a result, I required everything before that point, however, we’ll take care of the rest later.”

What About The Length of Avatar 2?

If you’re curious about the sequel’s lengthy and arduous trip to the big screen, here it is. Avatar 2 was set for release in December 2014, while Avatar 3 was scheduled for release in December 2015. It seems nearly ludicrous now. When filming was supposed to begin in April 2016, it didn’t. This film’s motion-capture work began in September, not August, as originally announced in January of the following year.

All of the Avatar movies were pushed back until Avatar 2 was scheduled for December 2017 after the announcement of a fourth film (and the rest set for 2018 and 2019 presumably). Due to the “extremely complicated” scripting process, James Cameron blamed the film’s delays.

Avatar 2 was then postponed once more in January 2017, with the consensus being that the studio was afraid to change the release date of Star Wars: The Last Jedi from May to December 2017. After Disney completed its takeover of Fox, the sequel was scheduled for release in December 2020, but that was then pushed back to December 2021, which brings us to the newest postponement.

Cameron, on the other hand, has remained unfazed by any setbacks. “There was a seven-year gap between Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Alien and Aliens,” he remarked.

Avatar 2 title: Say hello to Avatar The Way of Water!

According to the above paragraph, Avatar 2 has been renamed Avatar: The Way of Water.

Even more interesting, the BBC claimed back in November 2018 that Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: Tulkun Rider, and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa are the titles of the four planned sequels to Avatar. As it turned out, the first of these titles was indeed genuine, so possibly the next three will be, too. This was confirmed by Cameron later on.

Avatar 2 Characters: Who Has Chances To Be There In The Movie?

All of the original Avatar cast members have contracts, so they’ll be back for the sequel. Neytiri princess Zoe Saldana and Jake Sully, the human-turned-Navi, will both reprise their roles in the sequel. Stephen Lang is back as the dead Colonel Miles Quaritch, and he’s going to be the main villain of the four movies. He said that he’ll be able to “really go to town and examine the character in detail” in the sequel (via The National).

James Cameron explained: “I’m not going to say exactly HOW we’re bringing him back, but it’s a science fiction story, after all.” The actor isn’t giving anything away about his unexpected return, although he has promised that the sequel is worth the extended wait. “I think [fans will] be enchanted and fascinated. Look, some people are going to just adore this world,” he told EW. Sci-fi goddess Sigourney Weaver will also be back as a wholly new character, saying: “Having read all four of [the Avatar scripts], I think they’re extraordinary and worth the wait.”

Kate Winslet is playing the role of Ronal in all the Avatar sequels, marking her and James Cameron’s first collaboration since the 1997 blockbuster Titanic. CCH Pounder will also reprise her role as Neytiri’s mum Mo’at, and Matt Gerald is back as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet, while Edie Falco (The SopranosNurse Jackie) is playing the new character General Ardmore.

The sequel will introduce a new Navi clan called the Metkayina, led by Fear the Walking Dead‘s Cliff Curtis as Tonowari. Winslet’s character Ronal is also a member of the Metkayina clan, alongside the likes of Bailey Bass’s Reya and Duane Evans Jr’s Roto.

Jake and Neytiri have Navi children in the sequel too, including Jamie Flatters’s Neteyam, Britain Dalton’s Lo’ak, and Trinity Bliss’s Tuktirey. They have also adopted a human child Miles Socorro, aka Spider, who is played by Jack Champion. This content is imported from Instagram. “Jake took him in but Neytiri always saw him as one of the people who destroyed her home and killed her father,” producer Jon Landau told Empire. “So you have all these dynamics playing out.”
Game of Thrones Oona Chaplin will play Varang who is said to be a “strong and vibrant central character” that will span all four sequels. Marvel’s Michelle Yeoh has also joined the cast as scientist Dr. Karina Mogue and we got our first look at her in action on set in March 2021. The caption hinted that she’ll be in Avatar 3 as well, so expect her to play a significant role in the upcoming movies.

In April 2022, Yeoh said that she couldn’t say anything about the sequel or her role, but was full of praise for Cameron. “I was so impressed with the work that [he’s] done, the work that he’s doing, the energy. He’s a genius, he’s a walking genius. And I enjoyed the experience and I can’t wait to go back soon, I hope,” she enthused. Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel has added another franchise to his CV too as he’s joined the sequels, alongside Jemaine Clement as marine biologist Dr. Ian Garvin, described by Cameron as “one of my favorite characters”.

At first, David Thewlis from Harry Potter was misunderstood as being a part of the sequel. He will appear in Avatar 3 (and 4 and 5) but not in the second film, as previously reported.

Avatar 2 Plot: What will Avatar The Way of Water be about?

Along with the title announcement, we got the first official synopsis for the sequel, but it didn’t reveal anything we didn’t already know:

“Jake Sully lives with his newfound family formed on the planet of Pandora. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Navi race to protect their planet.” “I think the story of Avatar 2, and the strength of the story, is what Jim [Cameron] always does in any of his movies: he writes in universal themes that are bigger than any one genre,” producer Jon Landau explained.

“And if you think about this, there’s no more universal theme than family. At the center of each of our sequels is the Sully family. What are the dynamics that parents go through to protect their family?” Although there will be three sequels following this one, Landau has stated that “the trip through all four movies will build a connected tale” even if each movie will be a stand-alone story.

They are met by the Metkayina when RDA returns to Pandora, forcing Jake and his family to take sanctuary in a “safe harbor” along the reef. Pandora’s underwater and volcanic environments are sure to have you “shitting yourself with your mouth wide open,” as director James Cameron promised. That’s a good thing, in our opinion…

Avatar 2’s motion-capture sequences were shot underwater to emphasize the importance of water.

We also know that CJ Jones, a deaf actor from Baby Driver, has been engaged to establish a “new Navi sign language” for the film. It’s impossible to envision how Cameron plans to make the movies seem, he says because they’re so far ahead of their time. There’s a good chance that the new appearance will entice fans to return for the sequel.

“Big, expensive films have got to make a lot of money. We’re in a new world post-COVID, post-streaming. Maybe those [box office] numbers will never be seen again. Who knows? It’s all a big roll of the dice,” admitted Cameron to EW.

At CinemaCon, he hyped up the big-screen experience of the movie. “[We’re] pushing limits even farther with high frame rate, higher resolution 3D and greater reality in our visual effects,” Cameron teased. “I wanted our return to Pandora to be something really special. Every shot is designed for the biggest screen, highest resolution, and most immersive 3D available. I think we pulled it off.”
