Avenue 5 Season 2 Release Date Status: Is It CONFIRMED By HBO?

When it comes to Veep’s Armando Iannucci, he’s the man behind Avenue 5, a mashup between Star Trek and The Love Boat. If you watch it, you’ll see that it follows the trappings of a workplace comedy rather than a drama.

The comedy follows the passengers and crew of a space cruise ship as they travel through space. However, this causes an indeterminate length of delay in the travel. The actions of the ship’s crew are the focus of the first chapter.

Armando Iannucci created the science fiction comedy series Avenue 5, which premiered on HBO on January 19th, 2020. The Captain and owner of a hypothetical interplanetary cruise ship Avenue 5 are played by Hugh Laurie and Josh Gad.

HBO in the United States and Sky UK in the United Kingdom produced the series. It was announced in February of 2020 that the show would return for a second season.

The first season of Avenue 5 has come to a close, leaving fans with only one question: will the inaugural Avenue 5 cruise continue?

Here’s all you need to know about the second season of Avenue 5.

Avenue 5 has been described as being “set in the future, primarily in outer space.” The unintentional death of the ship’s chief engineer and a brief lack of artificial gravity cause Avenue 5, an interplanetary cruise ship, to deviate a few degrees from its intended trajectory.

There are only enough supplies for an eight-week journey, so the crew of the Avenue 5 must work hard to keep the ship in order and get it back to Earth in a safe condition after three years.

Avenue 5 Season 2 Release Date

Even before the first season’s finale aired, HBO announced in February 2020 that the show has been renewed for a second season. “We’ve loved every minute of Avenue 5’s inaugural voyage,” said Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Programming, in a statement.

“Iannucci and his team are geniuses at wit and biting comedy, and Hugh Laurie’s ensemble cast is the best in the business. In season two, we are eager to learn what happens to our unlucky heroes.”

HBO has yet to confirm a release date for the show, although we know that the makers are aiming for an early premiere. Season 2 of Avenue 5 could air at the end of 2022 if everything goes according to plan.

Avenue 5 Season 2 Cast

Billi and Nikki are two of the ship’s most vital crew members. A former astronaut and drinker, Spike Martin is played by Ethan Phillips.

Season 2 will feature the return of most of the main characters, as well as the addition of a few new faces. Director Armando Iannucci said, “It was so great to be back with HBO for the first season of Avenue 5, so I’m doubly thrilled that HBO has now seen fit to put Captain Ryan Clark and his passengers and crew through even more physical and emotional hell next year too.”

According to Deadline’s report, he further said, “Nobody provides angst-ridden laughs better than Hugh Laurie, and we’re looking forward to seeing what further impossible situations and existential crises we can plunge him, Josh Gad, and the rest of our fantastic cast into next. To the end of season one and beyond (into season two)!”

Avenue 5 Season 2 Storyline

It’s the future, and a cruise ship has been sent on a solar system tour, which sets the events of Avenue 5 four decades into the future. Due to vessel malfunctions, however, the expedition is halted indefinitely. The crew’s attempts to keep the passengers in the dark about the mid-cruise disaster are the source of most of the comedy.

Iannucci has already confirmed that life for the characters of Avenue 5 will become even more difficult in season 2, with both the workers and passengers experiencing a great deal of physical and emotional difficulties.
