Ben Affleck Divorce:  American actor and director Benjamin Géza Affleck was born on August 15, 1972. Among his many honors are three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards. Affleck got his start in the industry as a child actor on the PBS kid’s shows The Voyage of the Mimi (1984, 1988). Dazed and Confused (1993), an independent comedy, and other Kevin Smith films followed.

After co-writing and co-starring in the critically acclaimed and award-winning film Good Will Hunting (1997) with actor Matt Damon, Affleck’s star power skyrocketed. From the disaster movie Armageddon (1998) to the war drama Pearl Harbor (2001) and the thrillers The Sum of All Fears and Changing Lanes (2002), he proved himself as a starring guy in Hollywood blockbusters (both 2002).

It seemed like Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were a match made in heaven, or at least Hollywood when they initially went public with their relationship in October of 2004 at a Boston Red Sox game (via Insider). At the time, it appeared that one of the keys to the couple’s success was the fact that they kept their relationship mostly under wraps; in reality, only Garner’s old Alias co-star.

They announced their separation in 2015, just a few days after celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary. In a statement to People magazine at the time, “We’ve decided to divorce after giving it a lot of thought and discussing it with others.

For two years, from 2002 to 2004, Affleck dated Jennifer Lopez. In December of 2001, they bonded on set of the comedy film Gigli after having met at various industry events. A love relationship blossomed between the two when Lopez filed for divorce from her second husband, Cris Judd, in July 2002.

Tabloids widely covered their relationship, dubbing the couple Bennifer as the first celebrity portmanteau. They had screen time in the movie Jersey Girl and in the music video for her song “Jenny from the Block.” Lopez dedicated her album, This Is Me… Then, to Affleck, and the actor served as an inspiration for the project.

Affleck-Boldt, Benjamin Géza, was born on August 15, 1972, in Berkeley, California. At the age of three, he and his family relocated to Massachusetts, first staying in Falmouth, where his brother Casey was born. Chris Boldt, his mom, taught elementary school and went to Harvard.

His “largely unemployed” playwright father, Timothy Byers Affleck, was the inspiration for his son’s career. He occasionally held jobs as a janitor, bartender, electrician, bookie, and carpenter at Harvard. He had worked for the Theater Company of Boston as both an actor and stage manager in the 1960s.

Affleck’s father had a “serious, chronic problem with alcoholism,” and Affleck remembers his father drinking “all day… every day” when he was a kid. When Affleck’s parents split up when he was 11 years old, he felt “relief” because his “very tough” father no longer had to live with him. His dad kept drinking to excess and wound up sleeping rough in Cambridge for two years.

“Not in the sense that I had a mom who wanted to take me to Hollywood or a family that wanted to make money from me… I kind of chanced into something,” Affleck says of his professional acting career throughout childhood.

At age seven, he made his acting debut in a film directed by his family friend Jan Egleson called The Dark End of the Street (1981).  As a young actor, his most notable roles were in the PBS science-themed children’s series The Voyage of the Mimi (1984) and its sequel, The Second Voyage of the Mimi (1988), aimed at sixth graders.

Between the ages of eight and fifteen, in both Massachusetts and Mexico, Affleck worked “sporadically” on Mimi. As a young actor, he was featured in the ABC after-school program Wanted: A Perfect Man (1986), the TV movie Hands of a Stranger (1987), and a Burger King commercial in 1989.

From 2005 through 2018, Affleck was married to Jennifer Garner. In August of 2004, after becoming friends on the sets of Pearl Harbor (2001) and Daredevil, they started dating (2003). They had a small, intimate ceremony in Turks and Caicos on June 29, 2005.

Just the officiant, Victor Garber, and the couple’s partner, Rainer Andreesen, were there. Violet Anne (born in December 2005) and Seraphina Rose Elizabeth (born in January 2009) are the two daughters of Affleck and Garner, while Samuel Garner was born in 2010. (born February 2012).

They made their divorce announcement in June 2015, and Affleck remained in the guesthouse until about the middle of 2017. It was finalized in October 2018 after they both filed for divorce in April 2017 with the goal of sharing physical and legal custody of their children.
