What Illness Does Danielle Busby Have?
Stars of OutDaughtered Danielle and Adam Busby discussed the difficulties they faced as parents while dealing with Danielle’s autoimmune condition. When promoting the premiere of OutDaughtered Season 9 on July 10, Danielle, 39, spoke exclusively to US MAGAZINE.
“I used to not be able to get upstairs without feeling like I was gonna pass out. That’s just not a norm for me. I was always athletic and kind of fit and we’ve always taken care of ourselves. So for my body to go so down, it just was alarming.”
After the 2015 birth of her and Adam’s quintuplets, Ava, Olivia, Hazel, Riley, and Parker, Danielle noticed something was off. They have a 12-year-old daughter named Blayke.
Before Blayke was born in 2011, Danielle had endured years of infertility treatment via IVF. She eventually chose to take Femara, a medication that helps individuals with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) have children more easily.
Danielle went back on Femara when they decided to start a family again, and she ended herself pregnant with all five of the babies.
“After I had [them], my body never kind of recovered because it was nonstop movement. I was living a life of adrenaline for years. So when my body started to slow down and they were in school and kindergarten — and well, first grade really — my body wasn’t used to this. And so I went into this shock.”
Because of the strain and inflammation in her muscles, Danielle’s doctor “diagnosed” her with migraines and prescribed her fibromyalgia medication. Danielle told, however, that she is still in the “discovery” phase of her illness, and that she experiences both good and terrible days.
“It’s hard sometimes to even explain what I’m feeling or how my body is reacting to something even in the view of Adam because he’s like, ‘You look fine, you [were] fine yesterday.” “It’s annoying, it’s frustrating and there are days where I didn’t do anything extreme or off-set or something and [I] just will get up and I can’t move my hands and my feet and so … it’s an up and down journey.”
Adam, 41, also told that it is “definitely tough” to watch his wife Danielle struggle with her condition, but that he continues to be “supportive” and provide for her in any way he can.
He explained in the same Interview:
“That’s the thing with an autoimmune disorder. You don’t know what it is and you don’t know when it’s gonna flare up and there’s all these, like, unknowns. Like, one day she could be perfectly fine or … all of a sudden the next day she can hardly get out of bed.”

Danielle told that despite her ups and downs, she hasn’t had a migraine in “probably six months.” After a two-year sabbatical, OutDaughtered is finally back, and the Busby family is celebrating in style. Since the show’s 2016 debut, the family has been a central part of TLC’s programming.
To resume filming the reality show, “We just picked up right where we left off,” as Adam put it. As one cast member put it, “It felt like old times, and it was cool just to see, like, the crew members that returned this past season, just because they’re like family to us.”
