Kanye West has always walked to the beat of his own drum. He has found new success in a situation that most artists would see as bad. Turns out Billboard didn’t put DONDA on the charts because it was part of his plan all along.
Kanye West’s Album, DONDA 2
Recently, Billboard said that Kanye West’s new album, DONDA 2, would not be on the charts because it didn’t meet the requirements. This is because Kanye’s new album is only available on his $200 Stem Player, which is a big red flag to Billboard, which doesn’t like albums that come with “merch bundles” or albums that come with products.
According to West, that was the goal from the start. “Big win for the kid We can no longer be counted or judged We won we won we won we won,” Kanye wrote in an Instagram post earlier today. “We make my own systems We set our own value and yesterday’s price is not today’s price baaaaabeeeee!!!!!” he added.
Cordae, who has a bird’s eye view, saw that Kanye had a great time. As of February 18, West said that he made $1.3 million from sales of the stem player in less than a day, and the item itself made $8.6 million in just 24 hours. All that money went straight into Kanye’s bank account.
It was also Kanye’s job to show Billboard’s outdated charting rules. This will continue to happen as artists like Snoop Dogg choose to distribute their music outside of the streaming companies.
With the Stem player being new, Billboard says it will keep an eye on how it affects chart eligibility. Kanye, on the other hand, wants to change and break up the system that he says hurts artists. “Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes, it’s time to free music from this oppressive system,” Kanye West expressed. ”It’s time to take control and build our own.”
In the end, this is a big change for both artists and the whole music business. At the time that DONDA 1 came out, it was Kanye’s fastest album to reach a billion Spotify streams.
It also topped the Billboard 200 chart with the highest single-week sales in 2021 at that point. It’s been eight months since Kanye told streaming services that they had to pay up or else they wouldn’t get his music.
