Lord Varys
Varys gets to know about the true identity of Jon Snow, his heritage, and he writes a letter revealing it. Varys tries to manipulate Jon into betraying Daenerys. He wants Jon to take over Iron Throne from her, which he refuses to do. Before something happens, Tyrion gets to know about the plan, and he informs Daenerys. She burns Varys alive by the fire of Drogon. He is one of the most nuanced characters, but the writer had planned his existence up to this point only.
Sandor and Gregor Clegane
The other iconic characters who succumbed to death in this episode are the Clegane brothers. We know the fierce hatred they harbour for each other. We have seen how cruel Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane is. We have seen him crushing Oberyn Martell’s head. Both Sandor and Gregor fight each other at Red Keep while the city is burning. Although Gregor is resistant to attacks by Sandor, he is tackled by his brother through the wall. They both fall to their death.
Cersei and Jaime
Cersei and Jaime manage to survive the destruction caused by Drogon. They are planning to leave King’s Landing and settle in Pentos forever. However, they are trapped at Red Keep when the exit passage is blocked by rubble. They cannot exit out of the Keep as the Red Keep falls on them, killing them both and their unborn child instantly.
