The first weekend or week of Hogwarts Legacy is beginning to take shape, and as could be expected, it’s a monster. We have some preliminary data to look at since the game has the potential to be one of the best-selling games of the year, depending on how Call of Duty performs and how Diablo 4 performs at launch. We can already see some pretty insane statistics for the game, though WB is probably still compiling data for a significant announcement.
- Hogwarts Legacy smashed records for the most concurrent streams in a single game at the start of Early Access with 1.28 million streams. Although some gamers focused on finding Twitch drops, others watched the game.
- Four different Hogwarts Legacy SKUs, divided between ordinary and digital deluxe versions, topped the Steam Global Sellers Chart last week, according to pre-orders and lived purchases.
- On Sunday, Hogwarts Legacy reached a peak of 879,308 players on Steam, second only to Cyberpunk 2077, regarding the number of concurrent players for a single-player game. Elden Ring is also there if you want to consider the primarily single-player aspect.

If we’re attempting to gauge sales here and forecast how the rest of the year might go for Hogwarts Legacy, that last statistic is perhaps worth looking at. With an initial mega-burst of sales that produced these astronomically high figures, Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13.7 million copies in its first three weeks. Sales, however, plummeted after that because of the terrible platform release that came following, which led to the game being removed from the PlayStation Shop for six months.

With the game’s introduction in 2020, it took until September 2022 for sales to slowly increase from 13.7 million in three weeks to 20 million. But, as Hogwarts Legacy has no associated (bug/performance-based) concerns, we shouldn’t observe a significant decline in sales in this case.
