Based on Kumo Kagyu and Noboru Kannatsuki’s light book series (typically for young adults), Goblin Slayer is a renowned dark isekai anime series. Season one in 2018 caused quite a stir due to the fact that Crunchyroll mislabeled it as A-rated when it was released for streaming — and because of its extremely gory content, which is readily evident after watching the first 10 minutes.
On top of the obvious brutality, we get sexual assault (which isn’t shown in full onscreen but is clearly audible) and the eventual murder of children.
In this story, goblins reproduce by sexually assaulting each other, hence the sexualized framework for its female characters was a turn-off for several viewers. Those who were unaware of the source material and assumed the show would be more kid-friendly were understandably offended by this type of visual torture.
When Goblin Slayer employed sexual assault as a plotline, the result was an unintentional and long-lasting backlash.
In spite of the brutality and gratuitous revealing glimpses of women, the show provides epic adventure, fascinating themes, and superb characterizations for fans who can handle it. A young teenage priestess joins a gang of three adventurers on an urgent mission to rescue females from some goblins.
The females are saved by the Goblin Hunter, whose sole purpose in life is to horribly kill as many goblins as possible, and who begins assembling his own goblin-fighting squad in order to accomplish this goal.
The second season of this intriguing, ambitious, not-for-everyone anime TV show influenced by RPGs is in the making.
Goblin Slayer Season 2 Release Date
The second season of “Goblin Slayer” was announced in January 2021 by the publishing label GA Bunko during the GA FES 21 anniversary celebration. The new season was announced with a poster and trailer, but no new footage was released to commemorate the renewal.
This suggests that the production of the second season was possibly still in its early stage. If everything goes according to plan, a new season might be released by the beginning of 2022.
Crunchyroll has the complete first season available to stream, in the meanwhile. Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown, a movie based on the events of Volume 5, was released in Japanese theatres in 2019. You can watch it under the title “Goblin Slayer” on Crunchyroll.
Goblin Slayer Season 2 Cast
Yuichiro Umehara, Yui Ogura, Nao Tôyama, Nao Tôyama, Yûichi Nakamura, Tomokazu Sugita, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Yuka Iguchi, and Yôko Hikasa are among the original cast members of Goblin Slayer.
The series also comprises a wide range of well-known voice actors. For those who haven’t seen the series yet, you’ll notice that the characters are referred to as their archetypes rather than having actual names.
It goes without saying that the original Japanese version has an English dub as well. For the Americanized characters in Season 1, actors Brad Hawkins, Hayden Daviau, Mallorie Rodak, Barry Yandell, and Joshua Bangle are among the cast members.
Season 2 of this fantasy anime is anticipated to feature the return of most of these actors. If the plot of the novels is followed in the series, we can expect some new characters to be introduced as well.
Goblin Slayer Season 2 Plot
Volume 14 of the “Goblin Slayer” light novel released in Japan in March 2021. These books are the source material for the anime, and they tell the story of what happens next to the characters.
Considering that season 1 of “Goblin Slayer” covered events up to Volume 4, and the 2019 film dealt with Volume 5, Season 2 will start with Volume 6.
Volumes 6-10 see the Goblin Hunter’s squad battling goblins in an old mausoleum with the help of a young hero.
In addition, they’ll be sent to defend a vineyard as well as the Elven motherland. It is around this period that the priestess takes over as group leader, allowing her character to grow. There are lots of goblins to fight along the route. You may expect a lot of action, as well as some side storylines.
