Sony Pictures along with Marvel Studios had set the internet on fire with the teaser, even though the teaser leaked a day early. From Tom Holland’s Peter Parker standing trial to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange casting dangerous spells, Spider-Man: No Way Home’s trailer is raising new questions among the audience.
Apart from what was shown in the teaser, No Way Home’s trailer follows a typical Marvel Studios tradition of showing a sneak peek of plot elements, which will keep you stuck with the trailer from the very first second. While Doctor Octopus was the only antagonist to show face, two more snuck into a brief shot.
The first teaser of Spider-Man: No Way Home reveals a major villain along with many more bad guys than just Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin.
In short, the teaser showed Tom Holland’s Spider-Man battling bolts of lightning. While his face is clearly shown in the teaser, the source of the lightning shown cannot be anyone but Jamie Foxx’s Electro.
Spider-Man is seen wearing his new Black and Gold suit while under attack, is notably protected from the charged attack by sand, pointing to Thomas Harden Church’s return as Sandman from 2007’s Spider-Man 3.
While every fan of Spiderman dreamt of a live-action version has been a fan desire for years, rumors of it becoming a reality all began with Jamie Foxx.
In October 2020, there was a report of Foxx joining the cast of the Marvel Studios Spider-Man threequel, reprising his role as Electro. After his role from 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Foxx himself confirmed the casting, emphasizing his excitement to tango with Peter Parker again, through Instagram. Foxx deleted the post within a few hours of uploading it.
This post uploaded by Foxx hinted at him following a more traditional pattern of Electro in Green Goblin and Spiderman No Way Home, along with makeovers for multiple of the film’s antagonists. In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Electro’s blue skin was taken directly from the 2010s Ultimate Spider-Man comic run, a big change from the conventional green and gold suit showcased in most Electro-centric comics.
Electro’s face is not shown, but his lightning is notably gold. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ‘s Electro had blue lightning, which depicted a reflection of his blue skin. Keeping in mind the color change for Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s safe to assume the bolts belong to an Electro that looks much more like the actor that portrays him.
Flint Marko, was not a bad guy When fans last saw him. Yes, he did a lot of terrible things, but just like Michael Keaton’s role of Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming, all the things he did were for his family. While other antagonists like Doctor Octopus need to be snatched out of their worlds during the extreme of their evilness, as Doctor Octopus comes around by Spider-Man 2 ‘s end, Sandman is comparatively a good man at his core throughout all of Spider-Man 3.
For that particular reason, it makes sense for his instincts to be to protect someone in danger. This doesn’t exactly go with the devil mission statement of Spider-Man’s villain’s gallery, which makes Green Goblin and the company’s response towards Sandman’s potential Spidey sympathy all the more intriguing.
