Former member #4 of the Phantom Troupe and current Hunter, Hisoka Morow ranks third in the group for physical strength. He is always on the lookout for tough enemies and is willing to let promising young fighters like Gon and Killua develop to their full potential. Before his secondary role in the Yorknew City and Greed Island arcs, he was the main antagonist of the Hunter Exam and Heavens Arena arcs. He returns as a secondary opponent during the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc.
Appearance
Hisoka has the look of a jester or magician. His tall, fair frame is complemented by a ripped physique. In each arc, he wears a new uniform, and his normal garb features a variety of suit symbols on the front and back torso. Like his clothes, his face paint changes colors throughout the 2011 anime, with a star on his right cheek and a teardrop on his left. Hisoka wears the Greed Island Ring on his left middle finger during that story arc. Hisoka also sports a pair of heart-shaped dangle earrings throughout the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc.
Hisoka has blue hair in the 1999 anime series. After certain changes were made to bring the show in line with the manga, the color was swapped out for a bright red or almost neon pink. Hisoka has red hair and pale amber eyes in the 2011 anime. Hisoka tints his hair a pale green in the manga during the New York City arc. His complicated personality is reflected in the varied ways he appears.
Personality
Hisoka is depicted as completely self-absorbed and self-serving; he does anything he wants as long as it serves his interests. His sadomasochistic desires are driven by his insatiable desire to draw blood from powerful fighters in battle and his pleasure in causing them extreme pain. Hisoka permits the main protagonists to live in situations where he can easily kill them so that they can reach their maximum potential (and so increase the pleasure of killing them afterward). Similarly, he gets pumped up when he finally meets someone he thinks is good enough to fight or has the makings of a good enough fighter to keep him entertained in the future. He gets a rush from the challenge of facing up against skilled Nen users in intense battles that often end in a fight to the death.
Hisoka is a murderous sociopath because of his deceitful and arrogant ways. Although he has proclaimed his admiration for people like Gon, Killua, and many others, he has also made it clear that he will not hesitate to kill anyone who fails to reach his standards and that what is precious to him today could be trash tomorrow. While Hisoka’s character is evil, he is hardly a cold-blooded killer. He doesn’t care about age or gender when it comes to murder, but he will kill anyone who gets in his way or displeases him. Therefore, he is more amoral than malicious. He will help the protagonists if he thinks it will be “fun” or if it will make them more powerful and the ensuing battle more exciting. He takes pleasure in seeing the discomfort on their faces as a result of him irritating them. His chaotic personality shows in everything he does and makes him dangerously hard to predict.
Background
As a result of his lack of curiosity, Hisoka rarely discusses his background. Hisoka was shown to have joined the Phantom Troupe under false pretenses after the Kurta tragedy, around two years before the events in Yorknew City.
Also, around this time, he “introduced” Kastro to Nen in Heaven’s Arena since he saw potential in the young man. Afterward, he participated in the 286th Hunter Exam, during which he killed 20 of his fellow candidates. As a result of his first attempt, in which he came dangerously close to killing an examiner, he was disqualified.

Capabilities and Expertise
Hisoka enjoys all the privileges a Hunter is entitled to. He is a lethal opponent known for his graceful, vicious, and deceptive fighting style, which has earned him the title of “Floor Master.” His immense strength and fighting skills make him a strong contender in a fight, while his knowledge of Nen, tactical brilliance, and adaptability make him difficult to catch off guard. Hisoka is also a talented magician and frequently employs Nen in his shows. His incredible dexterity and ability to deceive the enemy are assets in a battle, and they prove decisive against Kastro.
