Jose Alvarado Is Awarded MVP As Team Pau Wins Jordan Rising Stars
Fittingly, the Jordan Rising Stars championship was decided by a 3-pointer on Friday at Vivint Arena. Team Pau defeated Team Joakim 25-20 thanks to a 3-pointer from New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado from the right wing. The third 3-pointer to bring a game to its intended score came from Alvarado, and the same thing happened earlier in the night during the semifinal games. He ultimately won the game MVP award as well.
After a scorching effort in his semifinal game, second-year guard Quentin Grimes made a lasting impression in the championship game by scoring 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting:
Team Pau delivered!!! Proud of my players, this has been so fun 🤩 2-0 record as a coach, by the way 🤷🏼 #JordanRisingStars #NBAAllStar

Grimes propelled Team Joakim to an 18-16 lead at one point, but Team Pau’s balance kept them in the game. Alvarado scored five points; Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magic scored four; Benedict Mathurin of the Indiana Pacers scored seven; and Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors scored six. In place of time running out, the game this year was played to a Final Target Score, where each game would terminate on a made basket or free throw. The Final Target Score for the two semifinal games, Games 1 and 2, was 40. The Jordan Rising Stars title was decided by a Final Target Score of 25 in the championship game.
Team Pau defeated Team Deron 40–25 in the opening semifinal contest. The game-winning 3-pointer was made by Sacramento Kings rookie Keegan Murray with help from Indiana Pacers rookie Andrew Nembhard. Both Banchero (nine points, five rebounds) and Alvarado (13 points, 10 minutes) performed admirably for Team Pau.
