In the sequel to Will Smith’s “I Am Legend” from 2007, Michael B. Jordan will join the post-apocalyptic struggle, and director Akiva Goldsman has revealed some details about the film’s plot.
Goldsman would not comment on Jordan’s position in the picture during an interview with Deadline published on Wednesday, but he did hint that the sequel would stick closer to the plot of the Richard Matheson novel upon which the film was based.
I Am Legend 2 Release Date
On March 4th, it was announced that there would be a sequel. There have been rumours that the pre-production work will begin very soon.
I Am Legend 2 will not be available for purchase until a specific release date has been specified, which has not yet been confirmed. The film’s release is anticipated sometime in the first half of 2023.

I Am Legend 2 Akiva Goldsman Says Sequel Will Focus On Book Alternate Ending
According to Deadline, Akiva Goldsman has signed a multi-year, first-look agreement with Warner Bros. that will see him working on projects including the upcoming I Am Legend starring Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan and the forthcoming Constantine 2 starring Keanu Reeves.
The distinguished writer-producer has contributed to various films, including Apple TV’s upcoming The Crowded Room and Star Trek: The Next Generation spinoffs Odd New Worlds and Picard. He will concentrate on the studio’s feature films as part of Warner Bros.’s new content strategy.
‘I AM LEGEND 2’ will take visual inspiration from ‘THE LAST OF US’.
“I’m obsessed with ‘The Last of Us’, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse. You see how the earth reclaims the world,” says Akiva Goldsman.

Discovery merged with Warner Bros. and instituted other significant changes last year under David Zaslav’s leadership. The studio has cancelled several shows and movies in favour of more significant theatrical releases, like the DC films presently overseen jointly by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The studio has been attempting to crack the sequel, I am a Legend, for quite some time, and now Goldsman must do so. The writer/producer has been tight-lipped regarding Jordan’s role in the last-man-on-earth plot, but he has said that the picture will be heavily inspired by the Richard Matheson novel that served as the basis for the original.
I Am Legend 2 With Will Smith, And Michael B. Jordan Has A Different Ending
Fans of the post-apocalyptic science fiction film I Am Legend have been wondering how Will Smith could return to the title character role after 16 years have passed. Co-writer Akiva Goldsman (who also co-wrote the original film) recently spoke with Deadline.
He disclosed that the sequel would adopt the DVD release’s alternate ending, in which Smith’s character Neville survives his deadly journey to find a cure to save humanity. Sorry to disappoint you, but the production team will not be taking the “multi-verse” approach taken in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Since the original ending was met with disapproval during test screenings, a change was made to bring it more in line with the novel by Richard Matheson from which the film was derived.
During their conversation, Goldsman also indicated that the sequel’s tale would begin decades after the first film’s events, suggesting that we can expect flashback scenes detailing what happened to Neville and his friends when they arrived at the survivor’s encampment in Bethel, Vermont.
How The Last Of Us Is Impacting, I Am Legend 2 Story
I Am Legend 2, starring Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan, was announced for release in the last year. Now we know what to expect from the movie and where the writer, Akiva Goldsman, found some of his inspiration.
Goldsman wrote and produced the first film and told Deadline that the sequel would be set “a few decades” in the future. Goldsman explained that the decision was influenced by another non-zombie property, The Last of Us.
He said, “This will begin several decades after the first.” In The Last of Us, we don’t just see the world after the apocalypse but also after a gap of twenty or thirty years, and the concept fascinates me.
When man stops being the world’s principal tenant, nature is free to reassert itself, and that’s a lovely thing to behold. In New York, that will stand out visually. Whether or not they make it to the top of the Empire State Building is anyone’s guess.
