The actresses Jenna Ortega and Aubrey Plaza share a familiar vibe. The two actors presented the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a television movie or limited series together on Sunday night at the 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, and their chemistry was chilling.
While standing silently at the stage for ten seconds, 38-year-old Plaza finally stated, “I don’t know why they matched us up together.” ‘I know, we have nothing in common,’ the 20-year-old Ortega said.
As Plaza suggested tracking down the perpetrators, the performers stated in unison, “And curse their families and watch as misery follows their lineage for the next seven generations.” I get it now,” Plaza said jokingly.
On the red carpet, Ortega spoke with Jeremy Parsons and Janine Rubenstein of Entertainment Weekly and PEOPLE about her life since the release of Netflix’s popular series Wednesday, in which she starred as Wednesday Addams.
“It felt like a whirlwind, maybe more at the end of the year when the show first came out,” she said. “I tried to stay as far away from the chaos as possible and surrounded myself with people that I love and know, and I think that they helped soothe my anxiety,” the speaker said.

On March 11, Ortega will be a guest host on Saturday Night Live, so this appearance is timely. Ortega discussed her experience playing Wednesday Addams and the importance of having Latina characters on television during a Q&A hosted by the Screen Actors Guild on February 10.
“I can’t think of a Hispanic character with the same reach as Wednesday Addams,” Ortega stated via Gold Derby. Everything I’ve ever wanted to do professionally is represent people of colour and have them seen in favourable light. The fact that Netflix was so open and adamant about a Latin person being put in a position like this touched me.
They extended a hand on Wednesday, and I jumped at the chance to showcase her legendary figure in a new light. She also said that she was surprised by how popular the show became. She admitted that she was surprised by the show’s popularity and great reception.
I’m not used to getting so much focus. It’s beautiful to see the cast and crew rewarded for their hard work, but the suddenness with which it has happened has been both shocking and disorienting.
