Kamisama Kiss Season 3 Plot

Nanami Momozono, the protagonist of Kamisama Kiss, is a high school student. In spite of Nanami’s desire to live out her life like any other high schooler, she finds herself forced to deviate from the course she had planned.

Nanami was born to a gambler father, and as a result, she had a terrible upbringing and grew up in hardship. When she is in high school, her father messes up very severely and lands the family in terrible debt. With no money, Nanami is unable to pay rent at the place she was living in and is consequently kicked out.

Nanami, who is on the run from debt collectors, takes to the streets. After walking about for a bit, Nanami takes a seat on a park bench to clear her thoughts when a kind deed on her part leads to her life being flipped on its head. Nanami spots a man dangling from a tree because he’s being chased by a dog as she relaxes in the park. A kind-hearted Nanami aids with the man’s descent and scares the dog away. Nanami tells Mikage her life narrative, and the two begin to converse. In return for saving him from the dog, Mikage decides to return the favor and gives Nanami his home as a thank you. Because she is homeless, Nanami reluctantly agrees to remain at his place.

When Nanami gets to the man’s house, she finds a shrine instead of a house. Nanami meets the shrine’s caretakers, Onikiri and Kotetsu, and learns about the shrine’s history. She then meets Tomoe, Mikage’s familiar, and learns that Mikage was actually the Earth deity of the shrine and passed his powers and obligations to Nanami when she saved him from the dog in the park.

She begins to accept her new job as the Earth deity even though she initially resists the idea, and begins to work hard to be a worthy deity. As the series unfolds, Nanami and Tomoe face a slew of obstacles on their quest to become gods. Nanami declares her love for Tomoe later in the show, but he rejects her because the love between a human and a familiar is considered taboo. Tomoe rejects Nanami, but he also begins to fall in love with her, and the show follows their relationship as they grow older.

Characters

However, despite the large cast of Kamisama Kiss, the show focuses on just two individuals. The two main characters are mentioned below.

  • Nanami Momozono, the show’s main protagonist, is a teenage girl who had a difficult upbringing. Nanami was a poor child because of her father’s gambling addiction, and she was frequently mocked by her peers at school because of her financial situation. Nanami is forced to leave her apartment after her father commits a serious faux pas. When she rescues a man from a dog while attempting to survive on the streets, her life takes an unexpected turn. In the course of her investigation, she discovers that Mikage is the local deity of the Earth and that his powers have been transferred to her. Nanami is thrust into the position of the new Earth deity, and she quickly adapts to her new responsibilities as a deity and as a student at school. Nanami falls in love with Tomoe later in the show, but he rejects her because it is forbidden for a human and a demon to be in a relationship.
  • Tomoe is a fox yokai and the familiar of Mikage, who used to be a god of Earth. It is only after Tomoe hears that Mikage has given Nanami his powers that he reluctantly enters into a contract with her. Tomoe’s immediate reaction to Nanami’s selection as the new Earth deity is one of hostility and condescension. But as the show progress, Tomoe’s feelings for Nanami shift and he becomes emotionally connected to her and always concerned about her welfare. Later, Tomoe is infatuated with Nanami, despite his earlier disapproval. For Tomoe, his powers have been demonstrated to be exceptionally strong and capable of disabling other familiars. Tomoe often threatens those who speak poorly of or threaten violence against Nanami because of his protective nature.
