Upon learning of her historic victory, Kataluna humbly acknowledged the LGBTQ+ community, posting on Instagram, “Forever in my thoughts is my dear neighborhood. What I win, we win. What we’ve done is unprecedented.” The Filipina-American started participating in transgender pageants in 2016, and just recently began competing in cisgender events.
By posting a picture of herself on Instagram in a rainbow-colored sequined gown that she had created, Kataluna boasted of her success, writing in the caption, “I did it.” “The fact that we won on the 52nd anniversary of Stonewall didn’t even register in my mind. She will represent Nevada at the Miss USA competition on November 29 after beating out 21 other contestants. She will make history by entering Miss USA as the first transgender lady.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, it was in 2016 when Enriquez was working as a model that she first participated in transgender pageants. In an interview, Enriquez said that her life’s path hasn’t been straightforward. “I’ve had to fight off sexual and physical abuse. My mental health has always been a problem for me. When I was a kid, we didn’t have much money. Even though I didn’t have any help, I managed to not only succeed but also survive and pave the way for others “The words came from her mouth.
