Lady Gaga is fed up with people discounting the severity of the chronic pain she’s been experiencing.
The 32-year-old singer Lady Gaga revealed her battle with fibromyalgia disease, an illness that affects the nervous system and causes widespread discomfort, in the October issue of Vogue.
Lady Gaga Opens Up About Fibromyalgia
In one interview, the singer said, “I get so annoyed with people who don’t believe fibromyalgia is genuine.” “It’s actually a cyclone of anxiety, sadness, PTSD, trauma, and panic disorder that pushes the neurological system into overdrive, and then you have nerve pain.”
“People need to be more compassionate. Chronic pain is no joke. And it’s every day waking up not knowing how you’re going to feel.”
Stefani Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, disclosed her disease in September, right before her documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two premiere.
She tweeted, “I desire to help raise awareness & connect those who have it.”
There have been occasions when lady Gaga’s pain due to the disease has been so severe that she has been unable to give performances. She was hospitalized in September 2017 with “serious discomfort,” forcing the cancellation of her future performances.
According to Dr. Mary-Ann Fitzcharles, an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatology at McGill University, there is a lot of confusion about fibromyalgia because the ailment wasn’t commonly recognized as a legitimate illness until recently.
People with fibromyalgia often present with no outward signs of illness, leading many to believe that the condition is all “in the head.”
Fitzcharles declared, “It is now a completely recognized condition, no question. We no longer assume that every patient suffers from a mental disorder.”
According to what Fitzcharles told Global News, persons with fibromyalgia experience chronic pain in their muscles and tendons and other symptoms such as sleep disturbances, headaches, and mood abnormalities.

About 2% of Canadians have fibromyalgia, and most of those with the condition are women (80% to 90%), according to the Arthritis Society of Canada. The Arthritis Society states that the peak incidence of the disease occurs between the ages of 20 and 50.
The symptoms of fibromyalgia can be treated, but the condition remains incurable.
