Fans of Mando and his endearing muppet sidekick will be pleased to hear that a third season is in the works. All that can be done at this point is to wait. Despite a steady stream of Star Wars spin-offs, including The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the upcoming Ahsoka and Andor, The Mandalorian continues to be a fan favorite.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Potential Release Date
Season three of The Mandalorian will premiere in February 2023, showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni announced at the Star Wars Celebration on May 26, 2022. In the fall of that same year, Ahsoka will join them. Until the announcement, everyone—including the cast—was guessing when it would be.
“I have a few more things to complete in order to put the finishing touches on my work. But I believe it will happen this summer. There is no specific date yet, but it will be announced soon.”
However, in a major Star Wars interview for Vanity Fair featuring Pedro Pascal as well as the other new leading stars of the galaxy, it was noted that the show would be landing “in late 2022 or early 2023”. Although, “in late 2022 or early 2023” was mentioned in a major Star Wars interview for Vanity Fair, which featured Pedro Pascal and the other new leading stars of the galaxy.
TVLine had said before that The Mandalorian would come out in December, which would be in line with when the previous seasons came out. This officially puts an end to any hope of further adventures involving Din Djardin and Grogu for the rest of 2022… but at least we have the recently released Obi-Wan Kenobi series and the rest of the Star Wars shows to keep us occupied.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Plot
The conclusion of Season 2 of The Mandalorian felt like the end of an era, leaving fans of the show with many questions about what will happen in Season 3. At first, fans speculated that the post-credits scene featuring Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) was meant to establish a new story involving the two characters. But it was The Book of Boba Fett, so there you go. Rather than being the main plot, this story runs in parallel to the Mandalorian saga.
Ming-Na Wen said, “When I was told I was going to become a series regular, I just automatically assumed it was for season three of The Mandalorian.”
“And then when the scripts came out, it said 301, 302, 303, 304. So I just assumed I was signing on – because it doesn’t say The Mandalorian on my contracts.
“So for two weeks, while I was working with Tem and Robert [Rodriguez], I had no idea that I was actually shooting the spin-off [laughs].
“When the crew and the cast found out, they were dying. It was so crazy. So, yeah, it was wonderful to finally discover that I was shooting The Book of Boba Fett [laughs]. They call it The Mandalorian 2.5, in a way. So I wasn’t all wrong.”
Fans who have read The Book of Boba Fett in its entirety know the deal, but in case you missed this juicy nugget here, it is: the conclusion of Boba Fett establishes the foundation for the next season of The Mandalorian.

In the final moments of the show, Boba and Fennec express discomfort at the prospect of being portrayed as heroes, which is understandable given their murderous histories. Boba even says: “We are not suited for this,” Fennec’s reply? “If not us, then who?”
When a total stranger hands them a melon, they know the answer to this question. The leaders of the cyborg street gang Mods, Black Krrsantan, and Sophie Thatcher’s Drash receive a toss from Fett. Potentially, these individuals could take over Jabba the Hutt’s former position, freeing Boba Fett to return to his former profession as a bounty hunter. It was a handoff of the watermelon, if not the torch.
After that, we get a quick, cute look at Mando and Grogu taking off in a bird.
We previously anticipated that the story of Mando and Grogu’s reunion would kick off the third season of The Mandalorian, but that event has now taken place in Boba Fett. (We went into great detail for your benefit.)
For the most part, this is good news. As Grogu and Mando were being torn apart, the entire premise of the show seemed in jeopardy. We give thanks to God, and it seems Pascal does, too, that they’re back together. The best possible Mando guest appearance from the galaxy far, far away could even show up in season three, though Favreau could save that for the fourth season.
