As the first child of Kirk Douglas (1916-2020) and Diana Dill, Douglas was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey (1923–2015). The American Academy of Dramatic Arts was where his parents first met.

Danny DeVito, who had been good friends with Douglas since they shared an apartment in the ’60s, also starred in the picture. The next year, he produced the sequel The Jewel of the Nile.
