Millions of Americans are eligible to receive the latest round of stimulus checks and payments, which will begin being distributed to households this week. More than a thousand people should get their payments in the mail during the following few weeks.
Stimulus Check November Update
The Treasury Department estimates that 9 million Americans have received letters suggesting they may qualify. According to the IRS, “sent to people who appear to qualify for the child tax credit, recovery rebate credit or earned income tax credit but haven’t yet filed a 2021 return to claim them.” In its official form, the stimulus payout is known as the recovery rebate credit, and it’s worth $1,400. Officials estimate that 1.75 million New Yorkers will have received their payments by October 31.
Since direct debit payments were distributed on September 20th, the vast majority of eligible Alaska residents should now have received their stimulus funds. On October 6th, the checks were mailed out to the employees.
If you lived in Hawaii and submitted your state income tax return by July 31, your direct debit payment was likely issued in September. Paper checks ordered by October 31 should arrive by then. If you are a resident of the United States and you file your 2021 tax return between August 1 and December 31, you may expect to receive your refund anywhere from four to twelve weeks after you submit your return.
If you live in Colorado and have sought an extension to file, you should have your refund by January 31, 2023. In Illinois, rebates were first issued on September 12, although the state’s Department of Revenue has cautioned it could take “several months” to issue them altogether.
The first tax rebate checks for qualifying Rhode Island children were issued on October 3. If you have been granted an extension to file your 2021 state tax return, you should start receiving your refund in the mail somewhere in December.
Tax refunds for South Carolinians who filed their 2021 returns by the October 17 deadline should start arriving by the end of the year. The refund checks for Virginia residents should arrive before the end of the month. The IRS dispersed over 217 million payments worth $93.5 billion between December 2021 and September 2022. However, 3.3 million payments were delivered to 1.5 million ineligible taxpayers, totaling more than $1.1 billion.

If you were expecting a stimulus letter but haven’t received it yet, double-check that the government has your most current postal address. You can contact the IRS by phone or visit your neighborhood office in person. Alternatively, you might send a letter to the IRS stating your new address.
