October 2022 New York Stimulus Check: $270 Checks Are In The Mail
When was the last time you checked your mailbox today? Checks from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (DTF) can sometimes be found in mailboxes, and they may include a total of $270.
October 2022 New York Stimulus Check
On Wednesday, the government said it had begun sending out $475 million in additional financial aid to 1.8 million eligible New Yorkers.
“We’re delivering these relief checks to hardworking New Yorkers who’ve been feeling the pinch of inflation,” Acting DTF Commissioner Amanda Hiller said. “The average payment is about $270 for each recipient, which will help address rising costs associated with the pandemic and inflation.”
People who filed state income tax returns in 2021 and were awarded the Empire State Child Credit and/or the Earned Income Credit will have their refund checks issued automatically.
You must have submitted your income tax return with the state of New York (Form IT-201) by April 18, 2022, or have a valid extension of time to file. It is DTF’s expectation that the majority of payments will be made to taxpayers by October 31, 2022.
Those whose returns are still being processed by the government may not see their money until after October, the agency said, but it could not give a more precise date. Once the tax returns have been processed, the checks will be issued mechanically.

A New York resident’s Additional NYS Child and Earned Income Tax Payment check may be delayed if the recipient’s address is out of date. They can accomplish this by making a new account on the department’s website, updating their information as instructed, and saving the changes.
