Oil and Natural Gas R&D Projects receives Grants of $39mn from the Department of Energy

For cost-shared research and growth initiatives that aim to enhance oil and natural gas technologies, The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $39 million in federal Funding.

The USA now leads both oil and natural gas production in the world. According to U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), U.S. natural gas production hit a new record high in 2018, an 11% growth from 2017. As well as, U.S. crude oil production grew 17 percent in 2018, outpacing the earlier history in 1970.

Maximizing our domestic sources is vital to sustaining American energy independence and guaranteeing both our energy and national safety,” stated U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. “The USA is projected to turn out to be the sole exporter by 2022, and by introducing new technologies that improve the efficiency of manufacturing and recovering oil and natural; gas, we are sure to achieve the title.”

“The outstanding progress in U.S. oil and gas growth both standard and unconventional—is altering the energy panorama in America and around the globe,” stated Steven Winberg, Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy.  “Growing superior technologies to enhance oil and natural gas restoration can broaden the potential for growing our huge resources.”

Chosen tasks will fall underneath two DOE Workplace of Fossil Vitality funding opportunity announcements (FOAs). The Nationwide Power Expertise Laboratory (NETL) will handle the initiatives below each FOAs.

Advanced Subsea Systems Applied Technologies to Enhance Effectivity and Capabilities for Enhanced Oil Restoration (EOR) in Offshore Wells FOA – DOE will present as much as $15 million for initiatives that improve the potential for EOR of conventional sources in offshore settings and anticipates that the actions shall be executed in two phases. Section 1 will contain proof-of-idea validation of instruments, applied sciences, and processes in a laboratory or discipline analogy setting. Part 2 will encompass a built-in full-scale prototype demonstration in relaxed surroundings to influence stakeholders to continue growing the Technology to commercialization.

Advanced Natural Gas Infrastructure Technology Development FOA – DOE will sanction around $24 million for initiatives that assist the development of tools, strategies and/or technologies to successfully improve the safety and efficiency of the country’s natural gas manufacturing, gathering, transmission, and storage infrastructure.
