You’re the One That I Want and Summer Nights, sung by Newton-John and co-star John Travolta, were two of the year’s most popular singles. It was a turning point in her career, allowing her to shed her innocent country-pop persona. Hundreds of fans and celebrities from the entertainment industry began to post heartfelt tributes and memories following the news of her death.
Rizzo in Grease actress Stockard Channing said, “I don’t think I’ve ever known a more lovely human being.” “Olivia was the essence of summer – her sunniness, warmth, and grace always come to mind when I think of her. I will miss her enormously.”
“The perfect lady, gorgeous, with great poise and with a certain Aussie sophistication,” was how singer Rod Stewart described her. Oprah Winfrey, a well-known American talk show host, once said that her “positivity was just infectious. Olivia, I’ll miss you,” she wrote. “To the good times.”
On Instagram, Travolta wrote: “Your impact was incredible. Thank you so much.” I’m so in love with you. We’ll run into each other again at some point in the future.” When asked what he will remember most about her, he said, “Hanging out with her at her ranch. Finding Olivia in person and realizing she looked exactly like the Olivia in her mind. Her demeanor was unaffected by the absence of cameras or other distractions.”
Kylie Minogue and Dionne Warwick also paid tribute to Newton-John, calling her an inspiration and describing her as “one of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure of recording and performing with.”
Newton-John was diagnosed with cancer in 1992 and has since become a leading voice in the fight against the disease. Thousands of pounds have been donated to research through the Olivia Newton-John Foundation, founded by the singer. Queen Elizabeth II recognized her contributions to the field by bestowing a damehood on her in the New Year’s Honours list for 2020.
She died on Monday, according to her husband, John Easterling. He called her “a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years” in an emotional statement on her social media accounts.
“The Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to planting medicine and cancer research, continues her healing inspiration and pioneering experience.” On September 26, 1948, Newton-John was born in Cambridge, England.

During World War II, her father was a British spy. Her mother was the daughter of Max Born, a German Nobel laureate who fled to the United States with her family in 1933 when the Nazis took power.
In 1954, the family relocated to Australia, where she was born and brought up. A Bob Dylan-penned track, If Not For You, peaked at No. 7 in the UK charts and appeared on an album titled If Not For You in 1971. Between 1974 and 1977, she won four Grammy Awards and had seven US number one hits.
It wasn’t long before she became a household name, but critics were never fans of her audience-friendly music style. People think it’s bad because it’s commercial, she said in an interview with Rolling Stone.
During an interview with CBS News in 2019, following her third breast cancer diagnosis, she explained how she coped.
“At some point in time, I realized that it was consuming my day and that I needed to enjoy my life, so I decided to indulge in a cookie,” she said. “Because everyday living and enjoying life’s simple pleasures are essential to the healing process. As a result, “I’ve chosen that path because the other side isn’t so good.”
