Thousands of kids in Oregon will get an additional $170 million in food stamps, according to the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS).
Pandemic EBT (P-EBT), a COVID-19 response project, will provide $391 to each of Oregon’s 434,000 eligible children between the end of March and May. Each qualified youngster will get a P-EBT card with the monies via mail.
“We are grateful to be able to provide these food benefits to eligible students and families with young children in Oregon,” said Claire Seguin, interim director of the ODHS Self-Sufficiency Programs.
“As communities continue to be affected by COVID-19 and the rising cost of food, we know that many families are experiencing hardship and are struggling to get enough healthy food for themselves and their children. We encourage anyone struggling to meet their basic needs to contact our partners at 211, the Oregon Food Bank, and their local Community Action Agency for support during this difficult time.”
Who is eligible for P-EBT food benefits?
A child is qualified for P-EBT during the Summer of 2022 if they:
- Attending a school under the Community Eligibility Provision or meeting National School Lunch Program eligibility requirements for the 2021-2022 school year.
- Were enrolled in SNAP before the age of six in the summer of 2022.
Each eligible youngster will get two pieces of personalized mail between March and May of 2023:
- A letter informing them of their P-EBT benefits eligibility.
- A P-EBT card containing $391 worth of food benefits in a separate envelope.
Each youngster will get a letter and card if a family has more than one kid who qualifies. Beginning in April, P-EBT cards will be sent to households once notification letters have been sent out at the end of March.
