The rebooted FOX series finished its fifth season in May 2017 with a completely crazy finale, ‘Behind the Eyes,’ which included two severe plot twists and a happy ending for Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller).
Yet less than a year later, it was reported there was going to be some sort of “new iteration” of this show in development.
Where is Prison Break season six now, and when can we expect to see it on television?
Below we have mentioned everything we know so far about Prison Break Season 6.
Will There Be Another Season of Prison Break?
A new iteration of Prison Break was confirmed by FOX in January of 2018. Michael Thorn, Entertainment president said, “It’s in very early stages of development.”
“But we’re really excited about it.”
According to Miller, “There’s always room for more, in my mind. As long as it’s a story that’s worth telling, as long as it feels justified and cool and edgy.
“It has to be something that’s not going to let the fans down, that’s going to satisfy and surprise. I’m open to the conversation.”
Paul Scheuring said, “desire… from fans… and some of the actors”, he “couldn’t tell you another story about this group of people”.
“Maybe somebody else can,” he added. “Or by accident, I’ll somehow, possibly, dream up another prison escape that’s new and fresh, but I would bet against it.”
Dana Walden, FOX’s CEO at the time, was enthusiastic about the new series, but his replacement sounded less enthusiastic.
Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said, “There’s no plan right now to revive Prison Break or any of the other franchises, but when the creators come with a story that they think is the right time to tell, we are so ready to listen because those are some franchises of which I’m so proud and feel so fortunate that they’re in our stable.
By August 2019, it seems that plans had fully stalled, with the Prison Break writers’ room sharing a statement that read: “Nothing is ever dead (remember when Sara was decapitated?), but for now, the elusive season six is not on the cards.”
Dominic Purcell (who plays Lincoln on the show) revealed his aspirations for the sixth season in 2020, noting that the coronavirus outbreak opened a “steely resolve” in him to get it made.
He said, “We are all in agreement that if the story is worth it will get made.”
“I’m very optimistic with #socialdistancing and a fierce adherence to expert opinion on how to beat this catastrophic unprecedented event, we all as one will be victorious over #coronavirus – corporations such as #netflix are desperate for content.”
The Cast of Prison Break Season 6
When Vaun Wilmott mentioned the possibility of a sixth series, he was hinting that any characters who were still alive at the end of the most recent miniseries could return.
We now know that Miller’s return is exceedingly doubtful, but there are still a number of other favorites who are still in the running, such as:
• Dominic Purcell (Lincoln Burrows)
• Rockmond Dunbar (C-Note)
• Robert Knepper (T-Bag)
• Amaury Nolasco (Sucre)
• Inbar Lavi (Sheba)
Sara Tancredi-Scofield, played by Sarah Wayne Callies, could make a comeback. In any future iteration, Mike Jr. and Ja (Rick Yune) are also possible characters.
However, despite Kellerman’s death in the most recent episode, Paul Adelstein has hinted that he may return in season six.
He said, “I don’t see it as his swan song, I mean, it’s Prison Break. In all seriousness, how can you ever really know if you should believe what you see?”
Ex-FBI agent Alexander Mahone (William Fichtner) was notably absent from the revival, but can he play some sort of role in the upcoming season?
Rober knepper said,“Paul loves Bill Fichtner and I love Bill Fichtner.”
“He’s a brilliant actor – but Paul honestly said to me, ‘I don’t know what to do with that character'”.
“He didn’t want to just bring everybody back, so that the audience go, ‘Oh, look, it’s Bill Fichtner again!’ – he honestly thought, ‘I’m not sure where to do that in the plot,’ so if someday there’s another chapter of this, maybe then Bill will be back.”
In a follow-up post, Scheuring said that Mahone had a “somewhere between [a] 50-150 percent chance” of returning to the show for season six.
He explained, “All characters had to be organically within the series and he didn’t really have a role other than being the sidekick running around in Yemen, which he really didn’t have a skill set for.”
“So I wish there could’ve been more Sucre. It would have been creatively disingenuous to include him more than that, but if there’s another season, maybe there’s way more Sucre.”
