Public Service Loan Forgiveness Form Officially Live
President Biden announced on Monday that the official application for student loan forgiveness is now live, and since the beta site went live on Friday, more than 8 million people have submitted applications. Under the plan, borrowers with annual incomes of less than $125,000 will have up to $10,000 of their student loan debt forgiven, making the debt relief a “game changer,” as Biden put it. President Biden has estimated that 40 million or more Americans will benefit from the aid.
The online application process should take no more than five minutes, and supporting documents are not required. Republican and some Democratic voters in swing states have criticized and filed lawsuits against Biden’s plan to forgive student loans.
The government is telling people who need help to apply by the middle of November so they can get it before the break in student loan payments ends on December 31, 2022. All applications received by the Department of Education before December 31, 2023, will be processed in the order in which they were received.
The majority of debtors, the government says, should feel better within a month. As stated on the federal government’s website for student aid, a paper version of the form will soon be available.
Student Loan Application Site Live
On Friday night, the beta version of the student loan forgiveness application was released, and as of Monday afternoon, it was fully operational, as stated by President Joe Biden. The simple application process allows borrowers to submit a request for debt relief without providing any supporting evidence or paperwork.
Borrowers are asked for the usual suspects in the brief application form (name, SSN, email, phone number, etc.). Forgiveness is available to single people making less than $125,000 annually and married couples making less than $250,000.
Student Loan Relief Deadline For Teachers, Military, And More
Also, the deadline for public service borrowers who work for non-profits, the military, or federal, state, Tribal, or local government is coming up on Halloween. The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program may cancel all of the debt of certain borrowers, including teachers.
To qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, borrowers must apply and verify their employment status on PSLF.gov by October 31. According to a report by Erin Doherty of Axios, public servants who have made 120 qualifying payments toward their federal student loan debt are eligible to receive a waiver of their remaining debt.

Public servants who have student loan debt can now receive credit for payments they’ve already made that weren’t previously applied toward the 120 required monthly payments. In August, more than a hundred Democrats in Congress wrote to the Biden administration requesting that the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program’s waiver be extended to July 2023. More than 211,000 federal employees will have their student loans forgiven thanks to PSLF’s temporary changes, the White House announced earlier this month.
