On June 7th, two decades after it first aired on Showtime, Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City returned to Netflix. If you’re hoping for more, you’ll be sad to learn that Tales of the City will not be returning for a second season.
The announcement of the prequel series to the PBS, Showtime, and Channel 4 show that aired in the 1990s and 2000s in June 2017 was a bit of a surprise.
After a two-year development period, the show premiered on Netflix on June 7th, 2019.
Even though it was based on a series of novels of the same name, Tales of the City was first updated for a contemporary audience in the late 1970s.
Is Tales of the City Returning to Netflix for Season 2?
According to the official information retrieved on 15 June 2019, the show hasn’t been renewed yet.
It’s unlikely that the show will return for a second season, despite the show’s stellar ratings.
To begin with, the series has been designated as a Limited Series. The term “limited series” is often used by Netflix to describe short-lived projects like this one, even though it was always planned to be a single season.
Another possible explanation for the show’s lack of a second season may be due to its all-star ensemble. The series is back with a slew of big-name actors who are all juggling other projects. Several of the stars, in fact, have Netflix projects of their own.
Ellen Page is currently working for The Umbrella Academy Season 2 and Laura Linney is working for Ozark’s Season 3.
Because the show is based on a novel series, its content is constrained. This series is a prelude to More Tales of the City and Further Tales of the City, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t more material to cover.

Where Can We Find “More Tales of the City” and “Further Tales of the City”?
A lot of the original shows aren’t available to watch on Netflix. In many cases, Netflix reboots have failed to live up to expectations. For instance, “Fuller House,” Netflix was unable to acquire the original Full House series.
The fact that so many networks and production companies were involved in the original series makes obtaining streaming rights very difficult.
As of the right moment, the only place to watch the original is on a video on demand (VoD) service.
