The End of the F***ing World Season 3 Release Date Status, Cast, And Trailer

The first season of The End of the F***ing World captivated audiences around the globe.

That’s what Charlie Covell, who made it into a series from Charles Forsman’s novel of the same name, says.

Covell said, “I can’t take credit for Alyssa and James’ popularity as they’re Chuck’s creation.”

“There’s something about the disparity between the image they project and who they actually are that makes them recognizable to the audience – we can see them as two very damaged teenagers who just want to connect and we identify with that.

“I feel it, especially with Alyssa. I wish I had been that ballsy and headstrong and had the ability to be rude and not care.”

Although the show was a huge hit, some people didn’t think it should be renewed for another season.

Despite the fact that the first chapter might have been a stand-alone, the choice was made to bring it back in order to continue the story.

Writer Charlie Covell said, “In all truth, we just thought about it as a single thing.”

“Obviously, we always think about how you continue something, but I think the way we talked about the second season is: if the first season is about running away, then the second season is about coming back and having to deal with stuff.

“So it’s that transition from being a teenager into kind of adulthood. It sounds a bit pretentious, but I think it’s more like a response to what happens in season one, rather than it just being another season where they kind of does crazy shit. Because I feel if you just reset characters and let them do the same thing again – I don’t think that’s right for the story.”

She added: “At some point, you’re like, ‘F**k, I’ve got to go home. I’ve got to sort my life out. I can’t keep running.

“Obviously an ending is an ending. If you end it at a wedding, that’s the end – but then there’s obviously after the wedding, the divorce, the children, whatever. You’ve got all those possibilities.”

“I think an end is where you just stop a story. If you continue it on, then that ending becomes the beginning of something else.”

Even Alex Lawther (James), whose role was kept a secret until the end of episode two, believed that a second season was absolutely necessary for the show.

He said, “Season one is almost like a big question in itself.”

“And as soon as Charlie said we’re going to look into the fallout of season one and the consequences of what are highly traumatic events in these young people’s lives… Yeah, that all made sense.

“So it was about answering that particular question of what happens next? When all of these things happen, what are you left with?”

Lawther further said, “I was worried that James would be a ghost or in flashbacks, like in A Christmas Carol.”

What are the chances of James and Alyssa returning for the third chapter?

Release Date for The End of the F***ing World Season 3

With Kaos (Netflix’s latest original series) in the making, Covell didn’t seem optimistic about a return for the second season of the show.

She said, “I don’t think you’re going to get another series.” “I think sometimes it’s good to just stop things and I hope when you see the end you’ll agree.

“I think you can push things but this feels like an actual end. Sorry.”

She further said, “I don’t think you should keep on going with something beyond its natural life.

“We’ve met them as old teenagers, and we’re now taking them into adulthood, and I’m not sure – I don’t know if it’s right to see more. I don’t know. We’ll have to see. Obviously never say never, but I think maybe sometimes it’s good to get out.”

“We had a good idea the other day though, so I wouldn’t say. But anyway…”

Covell added, “We could do it like Boyhood.”

Barden said, “That’s what I think we should actually do.”

“Could we afford you guys?” said Covell.

Barden replied, “I’ve probably got another year coasting off this, and then I’m like probably going back to being like, ‘Oh my God, why am I an actress? Another year at best.'”

Nevertheless, when asked about its future at the Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards back in July, Covell didn’t seem optimistic, “I’m not sure if it’s going to happen.

She said, “I feel with shows like that is probably better to leave it when it is at its height (it picked up two awards for Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress for Naomi Ackie). We all feel incredibly proud that we made that second season as successful as the first.

“Obviously you can never say never, but I think it’s good to quit while you’re ahead and I’m really pleased where we left them, and I think that’s it I’m afraid.”

If the show gets renewed we’ll definitely have to wait for a long time because Filming has become more difficult than it’s ever been because of COVID.

The Cast of The End of the F***ing World Season 3

Alyssa and James were essential to the show’s continuation, thus Barden and Lawther would have to join the cast for future episodes.

Barden said, “It just wouldn’t work [without us both].”

“The show is Alyssa and James together, you know – that’s what it is.”

The duo told NME they’d love to work together again, whether it’s on TEOTFW or something else (we hope it’s both!).

Barden added, “I really wanna play a female Joker,” A psychopath is what I’d like to play.

According to Lawther, “I could play Harley Quinn and you can play the Joker.”

In order to bring back the gang, it may be a challenge because the show’s international popularity has put the two of them in high demand.

In the beginning, Lawther was apprehensive about joining TEOTFW.

He said, “Initially, I thought [the show] was about a young man being violent towards a young woman, and I thought: ‘I’m not really that interested because there’s enough of that around.'”

After a little digging, he refused to be persuaded.

He told, “But I realized that James becomes something else. It’s not about his violence towards Alyssa, it’s about him understanding how he feels and working out that actually, he’s not a psychopath, he’s just very, very, very sad.”

Gwen (Christine Bottomley), Alyssa’s mother, is also expected to appear.

There’s a chance we’ll witness flashbacks of James’ deceased father Phil (Steve Oram), and his deceased mother Kelly (Kelly Harrison).

Trailer for The End of the F**king World Season 3

First and foremost, season three must receive the approval that it desperately needs.

As much as we’d like to see the third season, there appears to be little likelihood of it happening. Season two’s climactic scene and Covell’s reaction to it both seem very clear.

“I think, for me, that’s it now.”

“Yeah, that’s done. I think to try and eke more out would be wrong, I like where we’ve left it.”

“Put it this way, if for some reason we hadn’t been allowed to do season two, I would have been really gutted. Which I think shows that it was the right thing to do – for me, anyway. And I think I like where we end it [in season two], and yeah, it feels right for the story.”

She added, “But you never know, and you obviously you can’t write for what people want.”

“I think you have to work out what’s right for the characters and the story – I sound like such a dick saying that but I think you can’t, you’re not doing fan fiction.”

As soon as it’s announced that these characters will be revisited in a decade or twenty years, we’ll return to this article with excitement.

It’s possible that a trailer will be released in the month leading up to the premiere, so be sure to check back in 2031 in case it does!

Seasons 1-2 of The End of the F***ing World are available on All4 in the UK and Netflix in the US.
