Japan Has Got A Different Library Of The Game Boy Offered By Switch Online

This week, Nintendo released the long-anticipated Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance Switch Online libraries. It appears that Japan’s options are a little different than usual. In the Japanese versions of these programs, Yakuman from 1989 has replaced the Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare in the Game Boy application (Mahjong). This game was never made accessible outside of Japan because it was originally a system-launch product.

Given its past, it appears doubtful that this one would be included in the western version of the app, therefore, in order to download the Japan app, you must have access to a Japanese account. Beyond Yakuman, Japan will soon be getting a few more titles on the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance platforms. The Blazing Blade and The Binding Blade, two Fire Emblem games for the Game Boy Advance, as well as the 1992 action RPG Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (The Frog For Whom The Bell Tolls), which was available solely in Japan, have been confirmed for the Game Boy (another Japan exclusive).

The Game Boy emulator from Nintendo offers three distinct screen options: one that mimics the original Game Boy’s pea soup-green appearance, one that looks more like the Game Boy Pocket in black and white, and one that lets the game behave as it would on a Game Boy Color. All three of these panel settings can only be accessed by original Game Boy games, Game Boy Color games, even those that would work on an original Game Boy or Game Boy Pocket, can only be launched in Game Boy Color mode.
