Uncharted 2 Movie Release Date Status

Although Sony has not yet confirmed Uncharted 2 (sorry, fans), we are confident that it will be developed.

Sony CEO Tom Rothman referred to the film as “a brand-new franchise for us” when he spoke to Deadline in May of 2022. Since “franchise” isn’t a term used for a single film, it’s safe to assume that Sony is planning another film starring Nate and Sully.

Critics weren’t particularly enthusiastic about Uncharted, but the early 2022 release still earned over $400 million worldwide. Considering the market’s volatility and the fact that most successful films belong to long-running franchises, that’s not a bad return.

Like Holland’s Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances, the conclusion of Uncharted leaves the door open for a potential follow-up. In addition, there are four more video games from which to pull ideas, the latest of which is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Now we just have to wait for Sony to make the Uncharted 2 announcement, but until then, here’s everything you need to know to get ready.

Uncharted 2 Release Date

The release date for Uncharted 2 is unknown because the film has not been officially confirmed.

The first film’s original March 2020 release date was pushed back due to the ongoing global pandemic. The filming process did begin in July 2020 and wrapped up in October 2020, with reshoots scheduled for July 2021.

Because of this, the release date for Uncharted changed several times before it finally came out in February 2022. Based on this information, we shouldn’t expect a sequel until at least 2024, and that’s assuming production begins in 2022.

Since the sequel hasn’t been officially greenlit, there are no set filming dates, so production isn’t likely to begin this year.

After completing production on The Crowded Room for Apple, Holland has expressed interest in taking a break from acting. We can’t say we blame him for being preoccupied with other things, such as the production of Spider-Man 4.

If Sony announces a sequel, then we’ll know for sure when we can expect to see Nate again.

Nathan Drake, played by Tom Holland, and Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan, played by Mark Wahlberg, would both have to return for any sequel.

Also expected to return is Sophia Ali, who played treasure hunter Chloe Frazer and had a brief romantic interest in Nate. The first film hinted at a romance between them but ended with them as rivals after Nate tricks Chloe about the treasure’s location.

Nate’s brother Sam, who Nate believes is dead (this was also a key plot in the game Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End), was teased to return in the end credits, but it is unclear who will play Sam in the sequel, in which he is sure to play a larger role.

Although Fleischer hinted to CinemaBlend that Sam would return in the sequel by saying he had a “list of actors” in mind for the role, he ultimately declined to confirm Sam’s return.

Since Antonio Banderas’s Moncada was shot dead by Tati Gabrielle’s mercenary Braddock, the actor won’t be returning to the role. It’s possible that Braddock survived the shipwreck that eventually claimed her life.

Unlikely, but not impossible, especially in a world where Nate can survive a fall from a cargo plane without even a scratch.

During the second credit sequence, Pilou Asbaek appears as the villainous Gage, who betrays Nate in a business deal before being defeated by Sully. We don’t think this is the last time we’ll see Gage.

Nate’s main love interest from the games, Elena Fisher, could appear in the sequel. Given that they get married and have a daughter by the end of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, it’s likely that she will make an appearance in the film adaptations.
