Vikings Valhalla Season 2 Premise

More than a century after the events of Vikings, in Vikings: Valhalla, tensions between the English and the descendants of the original Vikings (Norse or “Danes”) reach a brutal climax, leading to widespread destruction throughout England. Christian and pagan ideas are a source of contention among the Norse.

From the Kattegat to the shores of England and beyond, Leif Erikson, Freydis Eirksdottir, and Harald Sigurdsson set sail on a perilous adventure that will test their mettle and bring them fame and fortune. The series begins with the St. Brice’s Day slaughter in 1002 and is meant to culminate with the end of the Viking Age at the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066.

Vikings: Valhalla’ Season 2 Trailer

The most renowned Viking explorer, Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his independent-minded sister, Freydis Eirksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson), and the ambitious prince of Norway, Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter), return for a second season of Vikings: Valhalla on January 12, 2023.

The teaser for Season 2 reveals that our characters are dealing with the aftermath of the sad loss of Kattegat, which has destroyed their hopes and altered the course of their lives. They are suddenly on the run across Scandinavia, and this puts their aspirations and bravery to the test in environments very far from their native fjords.

Season 2 is about “blowing these three heroes out of their comfort zones,” as showrunner Jeb Stuart puts it. It’s Thelma and Louise on the Dnieper River, and Season 2 for Harald and Leif is a road trip. They’re about to take off on this amazing adventure together. Freyd’s is being sent to the harsh climate of Pomerania.

Stuart Claims Season 2 Goes Beyond Scandinavia And Northern Europe

Season 2 is about “blowing these three heroes out of their comfort zones,” as showrunner Jeb Stuart puts it. It’s Thelma and Louise on the Dnieper River, and Season 2 for Harald and Leif is a road trip. They will go off on this fantastic adventure together. Freyd’s must now travel to the hostile territory of Pomerania.

According to Stuart, Season 2 travels to many more locations outside of Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Season 2 will demonstrate that even when surrounding oneself with individuals who have one’s own interests, diet, and language, one’s luck is not always in the same place.

The situation calls for some agitation, which the Vikings apparently provided. Also, they accomplished it exceptionally well, perhaps better than any other society. Then we assembled a ragtag group of nobility, Muslim astronomers, and con artists, and they set off from Novgorod.

Below, in an interview exclusively for Tudum, showrunner Jeb Stuart gives us a glimpse at what’s to come in the future season by releasing photographs from the set and providing his own descriptions of the series’ new characters.

Vikings: Valhalla season 2 review

The Netflix original series Vikings: Valhalla was one of the biggest surprises of the previous year, with its ruthless and rich portrayal of the Vikings’ last days. The second season attempts to maintain this success, but its focus shifts away from Scandinavia, diluting the series’s historical accuracy and the fervour that made it so popular in the first place.

Having just escaped Olaf’s defeat in the Kattegat, our heroes Leif, Harald, and Freydis are once again headed in very different directions. Leif and Harald gain the most from the more exploratory tone of Vikings Valhalla Season 2, which is spread out among four key sites.

Harald’s affair with Leif’s sister Freydis raises the stakes in their blossoming bromance, which leads them to Novgorod and then on a “road trip” along the River Dnieper as Harald tries to collect an army to support his claim to the throne of Norway.
