Many years later, the grandfather who was once a child sits on the porch of his sprawling Yellowstone Ranch home, thinking about the kidnapping of his grandson and the fact that so many people have been trying to take it all from him for so long.
Yellowstone Season 2 Episode 10
“My whole life is just a long series of losing things I love. I’m not going to lose this one, Rip. Not this one,” he tells his trusted ranch hand (Cole Hauser). With that, the Paramount Network’s Yellowstone season 2 episode 10, “Sins of the Father,” has begun. After the Beck brothers’ final, damning move against the Duttons, the Duttons are gearing up for retaliation. All the episodes leading up to this one have been setting up a tragic ending for certain characters, and now you can rest assured that their sins have indeed caught up with them.
As in the case of Dan Jenkins (Danny Huston), a local billionaire and John’s bitter business rival who, after spending the entirety of Season 1 and the first few episodes of Season 2, plotting to destroy the Dutton family and the local Native American reservation, has now found himself aligned with them. When Jenkins sees an assassin coming, he ducks into a closet to eliminate the threat from behind. Even though he’s caught off guard by a second intruder, who scores a few shots at him, the target still manages to eliminate them. This time, he doesn’t have as much luck with the killer.
As he lies dying on his patio, he mumbles, “I have a right to be here.” As in, “This is America!”
Yeah sure, but in keeping with the neo-frontier ideology that Yellowstone has promoted from the beginning, Jenkins’ opponents have just as much of a right to be there. After all, this is America, and in the contemporary wilds of Montana, the victor is likely to be the one who employs the most forcefully, has the most resources at their disposal, and is the most cunning and ruthless. Yellowstone season 2 episode 10 was filled with amazing scenarios.
From the very beginning, John has known and voiced this. His kids, especially Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Jamie (Wes Bentley) have had to learn this lesson the hard way over the past two seasons. John’s stalwart defender, his daughter Beth (Kelly Reilly), has known this for as long as she can remember, but that doesn’t make her safe from those who wish to do them harm. As a matter of fact, she was nearly killed by the Becks’ men a few episodes ago.
Despite this, John still tells her to stay out of what’s about to go down, a move that could sow the seeds of the new problems foreshadowed by the episode’s ending. However, before that happens, the real meat of “Sins of the Father” is revealed: the Duttons’ plan to rescue Tate and exact revenge on their enemies. This is what Yellowstone season 2 episode 10 has been building, and anyone who knows how brutal and unforgiving Yellowstone’s world can be won’t be shocked by what happens next.
In Yellowstone season 2 episode 10, Kayce tracks down Terry Serpico’s Teal Beck in his own home and kills him. Additionally, the weaker of the two brothers is ambushed while he is reading the newspaper while sitting on the toilet. The boy’s father confronts the injured man and demands to know where his son is. After Teal says he is unsure, Kayce shoots him in the leg. In addition to killing you, “there’s a lot of stuff I can shoot before you die,” he says. This is effective, as he then informs the man that a white nationalist militia in the area is holding the boy as ransom. In fact, he reveals their exact location.
It’s possible that this is the case for the Duttons and many of the other powerful figures seen throughout Yellowstone season 2 episode 10. The vast majority of their enemies, both large and small, rarely put up much barrier. And then they’re sitting on their own toilets, staring down the barrel of a gun as they bleed to death. The series has been following the same formula for its fictional content ever since its first episode, and now, at the close of season 2 and the beginning of season 3, creator Taylor Sheridan and company are once again telling the same stories.

On the other hand, despite overly dramatic scenes, Sheridan and his team produce something fresh and original in Yellowstone season 2 episode 10. Initially, Monica, Kayce’s wife (Kelsey Asbille), deviates from her usual moral high ground (something even the nefarious Beth recognizes and celebrates) by pleading with her husband to murder their kidnappers. In light of the situation, this is understandable, albeit worrisome. Since Monica has already let herself down this time, there’s no guarantee she won’t do it again.
Then there’s Beth’s chilling declaration to Rip, whom John has added to the property deed and given a house there. A nice gesture, considering everything the senior ranch hand has done for the family (and for Beth) this season. But that’s not how she sees it at all.
