Killer’s Shadow, the second season of Young Wallander, was released in February 2022, and it introduced a fresh plot for the Netflix adaptation.
Is there going to be a third season? What was the viewers’ reaction to season 2? Below, we’ll take a closer look at the figures and what we can expect.
Yellow Bird’s Henning Makell-inspired series, which premiered on Netflix in September 2020, follows a detective based on the novel.
The second season of the show was developed by Ben Harris and premiered on February 17th, 2022, with a total of six episodes.
The show’s second season’s naming convention suggests that it could become more of an anthology series in the future, with a new case picking up where the previous one left off.
Renewal Status of Young Wallander Season 3
Netflix has not yet renewed the show for a third season and it looks like the show will be canceled.
Netflix’s decision on whether or not to renew a show is based on its performance, and so far, the performance of Young Wallander does not appear promising.
Many criteria are used by Netflix to gauge the success of its shows, including the number of people who begin watching a show and the number of people who finish it.
Season two appears to have failed to make much of an impression, at least globally. However, it did well in certain important Nordic locations, which is understandable considering the source material.
Season 2 premiered on Netflix on a Thursday, which is when Netflix normally premieres some of their poorer shows, keeping Fridays for the big new releases. Season 2 was announced with a press release and a teaser, but other than that, not much effort was put forward to promote the show.
Another bad indication for the show, in our opinion, is that Netflix’s two editorial sites, Tudum and Netflix Queue, didn’t give it any attention. A show’s popularity is often gauged by the amount of publicity it receives on these.
Performance of Young Wallander Season 2 on Netflix
As can be seen from Netflix’s global top 10 shows, it was an utter failure. In the first week, 11.04 million hours of viewing were required to beat out The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl In The Window, and 11.46 million hours were required to beat out Jenn-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy the next week.
We may get a sense of where the show is doing well by looking at the show’s daily top 10 rankings. In English-speaking nations, FlixPatrol statistics show that season 2 didn’t have much of an impact, appearing in the US TV top ten for just three days and in the UK for just ten days.
Young Wallander did exceptionally well in the Nordic countries of Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Some central European countries, such as Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria, also enjoyed the show.
Matthew Belloni, Puck New’s editor-in-chief, says that YouTube performance can also predict Netflix’s success. While the first season’s trailer garnered 708K views, the second season’s trailer only has 85K views.
Finally, the MovieMeter on IMDb is a useful tool for gauging a show’s popularity. The week after it premiered on Netflix, Season 1 quickly rose to the 21st most popular title on IMDb. So far, Season 2 has ranked 56th on the chart.
