In a stunning comeback, Sabalenka defeated the defending Wimbledon champion 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in Melbourne after being outplayed in the first set. The fifth seed, whose venomous serve and powerful groundstrokes finally paved the road for her win, broke Rybakina’s serve in the seventh game of a grueling third set.
Due to Sabal enka’s shaky start, Rybakina was able to win the first set in just 34 minutes. Sabalenka started the match with five double faults and won only four points on the second serve.
