A spokeswoman for the Haslam Sports Group declined to comment. A Bucks official declined to comment. A group led by Lasry and Wes Edens paid $550 million to buy the Bucks in 2014, setting a record for an NBA franchise in a control transaction at the time. Since then, NBA franchise values have increased dramatically thanks to new TV deals and rising global popularity. Sportico estimates that the Bucks are currently valued at $2.43 billion, which places them 56th overall among American sports clubs and 15th in the NBA.
The Haslams purchased the Browns in 2012 for $1.05 billion, then in a convoluted agreement that required the league’s expansion to Austin, they acquired control of the Crew in 2018. According to Sportico’s calculations, the Crew is now worth $560 million and the Browns are now valued at $3.18 billion. Haslam Sports Group also owns a nearby real estate development and manages the Browns and Crew’s current stadiums in addition to the two clubs.
