According to his employer, Gruppo Chiarello, renowned chef, and TV personality Michael Chiarello died at the age of 61 in Napa from anaphylactic shock caused by an intense allergic reaction. Chiarello’s culinary talent and originality were recognized during his career as the host of the Food Network series “Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello,” for which he received three Emmy Awards.

Michael Chiarello Career
Chiarello opened The Grand Bay Hotel in Florida in 1985, followed by Toby’s Bar and Grill, and was selected Chef of the Year by “Food & Wine Magazine” in 1989. He then returned to California, residing in Napa Valley. He began his career as a cook at The Heritage Restaurant, and after it went bankrupt, he started Tra Vigne.
Michael has held executive chef positions at Ajax Tavern in Aspen, Colorado, Caffe Museo in San Francisco, California, and Bistecca Italian Steakhouse in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2000, he hosted the PBS cooking show “Season by Season,” and later, on the Food Network, he hosted “Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello,” which won three Daytime Emmys, including Outstanding Service Show Host.
He also presented the Fine Living Network show “NapaStyle,” and in 2009, he competed in the Bravo reality show “Top Chef Masters,” coming second. Michael appeared in the Food Network show “The Next Iron Chef” in 2011 and was eliminated in the second-to-last episode.
In 2013, he opened the Spanish restaurant Coqueta in San Francisco, which was a James Beard Award finalist for Best New Restaurant that year. Later, in Napa Valley, he founded a Coqueta restaurant. At the time of his death in 2023, Chiarello also owned the Italian eateries Bottega and Ottimo in Napa Valley.
