Akim Aliu Wife: A Blackhawks Ice Hockey Player Has Signed A Three-year Contract With The Team
Former NHLer Akim Aliu was born in Nigeria on April 24, 1989. However, his parents are Canadian and Ukrainian. Before leaving the Czech Extraliga, he played for HC Litvnov (ELH). The Chicago Blackhawks drafted Aliu in the second round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
He played for the Blackhawks’ the Atlanta Thrashers’ and Winnipeg Jets’ AHL and ECHL affiliates before being traded to the Flames. On April 5, 2012, Aliu made his NHL debut.

While playing for HC Litvinov in the Czech Extraliga on April 5, 2012, he made his NHL debut the same day (ELH). In 2005–2006, at the beginning of Aliu’s first OHL season, he got into a brawl with Steve Downie during practice when Downie cross-checked him in the face and knocked out seven of his teeth.
He got some medical help off the ice and came back to confront Downie. In 2020, Aliu discussed his experience with the Spitfires in further depth, including his view that Downie was driven to abuse him in this and other incidents because of Aliu’s diverse racial and ethnic background.

Pro hockey player and co-creator of the Hockey Diversity Alliance Akim Aliu has formed an extensive cooperation with Adidas Canada. He is a new Adidas Canada ambassador and a strong proponent of positive social change.
Akim, a hockey player, is dedicated to eliminating discrimination in the game and does so by participating in some equality and diversity initiatives.
The Canadian branch of Adidas is dedicated to helping Akim keep his word and fundraise for groups working to improve Canadian sports for all.
He Was Introduced To Hockey At The Age Of 10
When Akim was ten years old, he picked up a pair of hockey skates from a garage sale that was four sizes too big for him. After three years, he made the elite Toronto Marlboros Hockey Club roster. Akim was selected by the Windsor Spitfires in the first round of the 2016 Ontario Hockey League Draft when he was just 16 years old.
His selection by the OHL came two years before the Chicago Blackhawks used the second overall choice in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft to take him. Akim entered the NHL with the Rockford Ice Hogs when he was just 19 years old.
In 2011, he signed with the Calgary Flames of the NHL. After a tremendous four-year OHL career with the Sudbury Wolves and the London Knights, Akim made the jump to the professional ranks.
Akim has played a pivotal role in changing the hockey world and beyond. He has campaigned for the inclusion of BIPOC youth in sports and for the expansion of opportunities for them to play hockey.
A Blackhawks Ice Hockey Player Has Signed A Three-year Contract With The Team
Akim Aliu signed his first professional contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on August 25, 2008, a three-year deal. Before becoming a regular contributor, he got into two games after the 2007–08 season, five games after the 2008–09 season, and two at the beginning of the 2009–10 AHL season.

He was demoted to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye late in the season after playing 48 games and recording 11 goals and six assists. The Atlanta Thrashers acquired the rights to his playing time at the end of the season.
Although under contract with the Peoria Rivermen and skating for the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL, Aliu finished the 2010–11 season with the Chicago Wolves, the Atlanta Thrashers’ AHL affiliate.
The NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers moved to Winnipeg and were known as the Winnipeg Jets for the 2011-12 season. After being cut from the roster of Winnipeg’s AHL affiliate, he started the season with the ECHL’s Colorado Eagles since he was not in the new regime’s plans.
