Is Filming for The Witcher Season 3 Underway?
The good news is that the third season of The Witcher has begun filming! Official Netflix images from the set showed Henry Cavill and his co-stars (likely Freya Allan) playing in a snowy winter wonderland on April 4th.
“Our family is back together again. #TheWitcher Season 3 is officially in production!” the tweet remarked.

What Can We Expect From The Witcher Season 3?
The Witcher’s Twitter account also offered an interesting hint about the upcoming season’s plot.
“We’re also excited to reveal the official plot summary for the upcoming season…,” they wrote on Twitter, alongside an image of a comprehensive plot explanation for the show.
This is what the brief description teases us with:
“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed on a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

As regular viewers of The Witcher know, the series is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels of the same name and was developed by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich exclusively for Netflix. As such, we may assume that season three will stay true to the source material.
The second book in the series, The Time of Contempt, was mentioned at the end of season two.
Ciri’s training as a sorcerer will be the focus of the third series, which will be based on the plot of the second novel.
When Was Season 3 of The Witcher Confirmed?
The show got confirmed by Netflix on September 25, 2021. In their message, they asked, “Toss a coin to our growing Witcher universe!” they wrote. “We can officially announce The Witcher Season 3, along with a second anime feature film, and a new Kids and Family series set in the world of The Witcher.”
Wow. It’s time to expand the Witcher universe!
As far back as July 2021, Lad Bible announced that the screenplay for season 3 had begun.
Who Are the Cast Members of The Witcher Season 3?
We can now confirm that Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Enola Holmes, The Tudors) will reprise his role as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3 thanks to a tweet from the show’s social media accounts.
We can probably say that Freya Allan (Gunpowder Milkshake) and Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust) will definitely make a comeback as Princess Ciri and Yennefer.
It is expected that some of our favorite characters, such as Anna Shaffer (Triss), Joey Batey (Jaskier), MyAnna Buring (Tissa) Lars Mikkelson (Stregobor), Terence Maynard (Artorius), and Royce Pierreson (Istredd) will return.
Is There a Teaser for The Witcher Season 3?
Considering that the third season’s scripting began in the summer of 2021 and filming was recently confirmed in April 2022, we’ll have to wait a bit for the teaser. In the meantime, why not go back and watch the first and second seasons of The Witcher?
What Is the Release Date for The Witcher Season 3?
There’s no word yet on an official release date, so keep an eye out. On December 17, 2021, Netflix premeired The Witcher Season Two, which follows the events of Season One, which aired in December of 2019.
We could be looking at December 2023 release if we follow this pattern.
Although Covid delays may have contributed to S2, there is always the possibility that season three will arrive sooner than expected.
Is There Anything The Witcher Season 3 Cast Has Said?
Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier, told Cosmopolitan UK, “Yeah, we know some of the beats, and Lauren [Schmidt Hissrich] is guiding this ship with such kindness … And collaborative spirit. Yeah, we’re all kind of raring to go.”
“Not only has work begun on season three, but the writers’ room is nearly finished,” producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said.”Season three is really fun because it’s based on my favorite book in the series, which is the Time of Contempt. In fact, a lot of stuff that we’re doing in season two has really been the work of setting up that season.”
“And there are huge things that happen. And a lot of people die. It is a big turning point, both for our series and storytelling, but also just in the Continent itself.”
