Cyberpunk 2077 File Stands Risk of Getting Corrupted if it Gets Too Big
If you have been following Cyberpunk 2077 for some time on the internet, you can see that it’s almost everywhere. You can see weird, funny bugs from the game. Now let’s be real with the game – it has quite a lot of bugs. Its developers, CD Projekt Red, have tried to fix the problems by releasing two updates.
However, it’s not a fun experience when you have too many bugs in your game. One such issue that has started to surface is that many players have noted that Cyberpunk 2077 is getting corrupted if the file’s size exceeds. Don’t think so?
What’s Causing Cyberpunk 2077 Bug
Suppose your Cyberpunk 2077 saved file is corrupted, there’s a prompt that notifies you about the issue when you try to load up the game. The prompt is like this: “saved data is damaged and cannot be loaded.”
At the moment it’s unclear what is the reason behind this file corruption bug. It happens when the save file reaches up to 8MB in size One Redditor observed that it happened in their case when the file crossed the 8MB size. Other users have also noted the circumstances of their save file getting corrupted.
Solution on Cyberpunk 2077 Save File Bug
If you check GOG.com where people have various queries about the game, there’s a response from CD Projekt Red: “Unfortunately the save is damaged and can’t be recovered. Please use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials. If you have used the item duplication glitch, please load a save file not affected by it. The save file size limit might be increased in one of the future patches, but the corrupted files will remain that way.”
When you play Cyberpunk 2077, your save file is going to be larger than 8MB. That means you have played the game for hours and collected lots of stuff. This game itself is littered with stuff that is supposed to be collected by the player. If your file is going to be corrupt because a player collected too much stuff, it’s an extremely a lame excuse from the developer’s side.
If you read the GOG.com’s support document, you will see that CD Projekt Red has hinted that in the future patches the file’s size will be increased to avoid crashes. However, the already corrupt save file will remain so.
A moderator on the official Cyberpunk 2077 Forum has offered some tips on how to take a backup from save file and load the game. The studio has given assurance to the users that they are working onto improving the game and two patches will be rolled out next year: January and February 2021. We can only hope that these patches will solve the problem of file corruption.
