Has Emily Simpson Actually Lost Weight?
Emily Simpson, of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Orange County, has spoken up about the “detrimental” steps she took to lose weight. The 47-year-old held a Q&A on her Instagram Story on Saturday, answering questions from fans about her weight loss and the methods she utilized, including liposuction, the type 2 diabetes medicine Ozempic, and modifications to her diet and exercise routine.
When asked how much weight she has lost since this time last year, the reality star revealed that she no longer cares about her weight.
Simpson explained:
“I think I’m around a size 6 right now but I don’t know what my weight is. I actually weigh myself weekly with [celebrity trainer] @paulinastein but I weigh myself facing backward so I can’t see the number. I’ve found that for me the number can be very detrimental,” she added. “I told her my weight goal so once I reach it…she’ll tell me.”
She went on to say that she thinks the weight she was when she first married her husband Shane is a “healthy weight,” and it is the weight she hopes to achieve. Simpson then answered a fan’s question on whether or not her decision to abstain from drinking had contributed to her achievement by explaining the most challenging aspect of her weight loss and fitness journey.
“I didn’t give up anything completely but I definitely cut way back,” she said. “I haven’t drunk much at all in the past 8 months and I stopped ‘mindlessly eating.’ I realized I had no clue what I was actually eating in a day…”
“I think I struggled over the past seven years because I convinced myself that because I worked out consistently…I could eat anything I wanted…clearly, that wasn’t working!! My age, hormones, and zero testosterone are all factors as well,” Simpson continued.
“This is the first time that I’ve actually changed my diet and stuck to it. I now focus on ‘mindful’ eating, meaning I plan meals and think about what high protein foods I should eat to fuel my body and build muscle.”
Simpson took aim at her critics who said she was “taking the easy way out” by getting liposuction and taking Ozempic when she posted a video of herself working out at full throttle a few days ago. “Please enjoy this video compilation of me being lazy and ‘not putting the work in.’ I hope you enjoy it,” she quipped.
Simpson was a guest on SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live at the time, and she spoke up about her weight loss journey. “I don’t know what happened,” she admitted. To paraphrase, “I think I just went for four months hard when we were filming and I ate too much, drank too much, and just didn’t get enough sleep, and didn’t exercise.” Simpson reflected on how a producer had sent her a snapshot of herself thereafter and how she had failed to recognize herself.
“It just really depressed me,” she reflected afterward. “I knew that I gained weight. I didn’t like the way I looked.” Simpson found out she had excessive cholesterol and low testosterone, and was pre-diabetic when her doctor ordered a full blood panel. Ozempic, a prescription medicine approved by the FDA for persons with Type 2 diabetes, was then recommended by her doctor.

It’s the newest fad in Hollywood for losing weight, and it’s a brand name for semaglutide and tripeptide (also known as Wegovy and Mounjaro).
“So I did. I did that in December for one month,” Simpson said. She said Ozempic gave her a “great kickstart” and “worked amazingly. Her bad behaviors “went away… It made me more conscientious of what I was eating and so that was a really great kickstart for me.”
Simpson stated that she dropped 5–7 pounds while on the medicine but discontinued it due to negative side effects. “It made me feel lethargic and just not have a lot of energy, which was hard with three little kids,” she added. “It does make you feel full,” Simpson assured Lewis. It was like a breath of fresh air to me.
