Jan Tchoryk Cause of De@th: Keeping the Memory of CFD Lieutenant!
On the morning of April 5, 2023, an autopsy was done to determine the cause of de@th of a Chicago fire lieutenant. As the Chicago County Medical Examiner’s Office reported, Jan Tchoryk died of hypertensive-arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

It has been reported that, Around 7:20 a.m. on April 6, CFD personnel responded to a still and box complaint in the 1200 block of North Lake Shore Drive. Not too much later, a mayday was broadcast for a missing fireman. The Chicago Fire Department claims that Lt. Jan Tchoryk was trying to go to the 27th level through the stairway when he came down on the 11th.
His colleagues rushed him to the lobby, where they started CPR. CFD claims that he eventually gave up on his injuries. Initial reports from the CFD indicated that the fire had been contained to a few trouble places. A second apartment was damaged, and enormous flames were released when the fire restarted before 9:00 a.m. on April 6.

The building’s administration asserts that the apartment floors do not have sprinklers, and CFD can no longer access the elevators. The Chicago Fire Department reported an accidental ignition on Thursday, April 6, 2023, caused by the proximity of flammable materials to a heat source.
CFD claims that Tchoryk is a seasoned cyclist, Navy veteran, and family man. His son became a police officer in Chicago.
According to Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot:
“It’s a very difficult time for the Chicago Fire Department and a very difficult time and day for our city, It is unprecedented to lose two firefighters in back-to-back days. In different circumstances, but each of them responding to a call to serve and responding to the aid of others.
“People that they didn’t know – because that’s what the job demands and that’s what they signed up for.”
