Love and Death Release Date Status And What We Know so Far
Big Little Lies” and “The Undoing” creator David E. Kelley is returning to HBO Max with a new series. The new show, like the previous ones, will focus on a fascinating murder case.
But this new HBO series, named “Love and Death,” differs significantly from Kelley’s past work since it is based on the true story of Candy Montgomery who murdered her friend and neighbor, Betty Gore, in the early 1980s.
In addition to Kelley, Nicole Kidman and Lesli Linka Glatter will produce “Love and Death” with Lionsgate Television.
According to some sources, Glatter will also serve as the show’s director. In the past, she has worked on shows including “Homeland,” “True Blood,” and “Mad Men.”
“Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs” by John Bloom and Jim Atkinson, as well as “Love & Death In Silicon Prairie, Part I & II ” by Texas Monthly, will serve as the basis of the show.
Below we have mentioned everything we know as of now about the upcoming series.
Love and Death Release Date
“Love and Death” has no release date as of yet. The series has been given the go-light recently, indicating that it is still in the creation stage. Due to the show’s early development, it may take some time until it is released.
To put things in context, “The Undoing” was first announced in March of 2018 and was originally scheduled to be released in March of 2020. COVID-19-related issues and delays resulted in the postponement of the sequence until October 2020.
Even if the delay had not occurred, it would have taken around two years between the introduction and its release. “Love and Death” may have a faster production, but these shows are a good comparison because COVID-19 is still an issue for producers to deal with for the foreseeable future.
Comment from HBO Max’s head of content Sarah Aubrey suggests that the HBO team is thrilled about “Love and Death.”
The Cast of Love and Death
Elizabeth Olsen has been cast as Candy Montgomery, the woman at the core of the murder case that the series will be covering. According to reporters, Olsen has been approached for a number of high-profile projects following the success of Disney+’s “WandaVision,”
Olsen’s decision to move forward with “Love and Death” is a huge boost for the project’s creative team. Sarah Aubrey said, “incredibly fortunate to have Elizabeth at the center of our story to bring out all the layers of Candy that make this story so unforgettable.”
In addition, Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs remarked that he was concerned about the situation, “We cannot imagine a more perfect artist to play the leading role of Candy than Elizabeth Olsen. Her talent, charisma, and energy can bewitch audiences like no other.”
With Olsen on board, the roles of Gore, Montgomery’s husband Pat, and Gore’s husband Allan is likely to be filled soon.
The Plot of Love and Death
It is based on the 1980 murder of Betty Gore, who was found stabbed to death with 41 ax wounds in the small Texas town of Wylie. According to Texas Monthly, in the late 1970s, Allan, Betty’s husband, and Candy Montgomery, a married neighbor, and friend, began an affair.
Betty was discovered dead soon after they broke up. After reporting that she was the last person to see Betty alive, Candy rapidly rose to the top of the suspect list.
Even though she claimed that Betty attacked her in self-defense after learning of the affair, Candy admitted to the murder during her trial and claimed that she was acting in self-defense. Candy was acquitted of all charges.
There’s no word yet on whether the new show would focus on the entire story or just a few key moments. Many people were skeptical about Candy’s story after the trial because of the surprising outcome.
For example, Betty had just written her parents a letter in which she called Candy a “good friend.” indicating that she had no knowledge of the affair in her final days.
The creative team of “Love and Death” is bound to come up with a variety of fascinating facts, no matter how they choose to present their story.
