Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, another manga series that appeared first time in Fatabusha’s Monthly Action magazine in 2013 and gained popularity enough to get attention of the anime world in later years. It was finally aired in Japan from January 2017  to April 2017. The same was released on Netflix  with added english audio and subtitles. Hit by the 2019 Kyoto Animation arson incident and 2020 global pandemic, It took the team a couple of extra years to come up with Season 2. But the wait is over now.

Season one of this comedic adventure was aired from January to April,2017 and the highly awaited sequel of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is all ready to be on screen on July 7,2021 With the name Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S where S is for “Super Supreme Second Life Starts.”

Miss Kobayashi is ready to leave for her office and is astonished to see a huge dragon standing in front of her main door. In no time, the giant dragon turns herself into a human girl dressed like a maid. The maid named Tohru is a wounded helpless dragon who seeks comfort. Miss Kobayashi removes a holy sword from Tahru’s back and lets her stay in her own house. Tohru, earning her gratitude, agrees to be her personal maid in return. And that’s how we get the title ” Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid ”. What adds to the story is the fact that Tohru was not the only one of a kind present on earth. Her presence attracts a lot of other creatures from dragons to god and what not.

Season 1 was all about how situations and circumstances tried to take Tohru away from her and how she tries to keep Tohru inhouse.

Season 2 can be a bitter struggle for both and the whole season will be packed with adventure and comedy like the first one.

The three main leads in Season 1 were:

  • Kobayashi voiced by Matsumi Tamura
  • Tohru voiced by Yuki Kuwahara
  • Kanna Kamui voiced by Maria Naganawa

There were another five dragon characters namely Elma, Lucoa, Fafnir, Ilulu and Damocles, the Emperor of Demise.

Other human characters seen in were Makoto Takiya, Riko Saikawa, Georgie Saikawa and Shouta Magarsuchi.

With the next season , It is not wrong to expect more of Tohru’s species. And this though adds thrill to the waiting that ends soon.

What took it so long? Why this delay?

This is a question that hits every mind who was waiting for the squeal. The second season was announced just after the release of the 8th volume of the story on February 12, 2019. Director Takemoto who was parallely working on others projects was a victim of the 2019 Kyoto Animation arson incident which took lives of 36. Later the Covid Pandemic added more troubles to the making of the season’s sequel, combinedly contributing to the delay of the Season. But the best part is that waiting time is over now.

The official trailer of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S was uploaded on YouTube on February 23,2021. It was more of a musical teaser and also mentioned July 2021 as the month of release.

Another Official trailer was aired on Youtube on June 5, 2021. This had a glimpse of the story. And it is a ride worth taking.
