Robin and Amber’s wedding planner JoAnn Gregoli exclusively says that the couple chose the rustic barn location for its beauty and in an effort to support a company in their neighbourhood.
“When I asked Amber what she envisioned, the words ‘enchanted garden’ and ‘ethereal’ kept coming up,” Gregoli tells PEOPLE. “Once she gave me those keywords, then I knew the vision that they were trying to evoke. We used lots of moss, greenery and organic materials throughout the wedding.”
She adds, “We wanted to make sure that we had sustainable invitations and we went with plantable save the dates and invitations. We also did not want to have too much waste with cut flowers, so we used a lot of greenery to make it feel organic.”
The couple’s decision to utilize candles to light up the entire property and the repurposing of flower boxes used during their wedding are just two examples of how sustainability was evidently woven into every aspect of the reception.
Without a rich cake, the reception would not have been complete. The pair decided on a four-tiered confection with alternate layers of red velvet and chocolate. A silhouette of Roberts, Laign, and their dog Little Man Lucas was placed on top of the cake to complete it.
Campbell sang “Stand by Me” during the processional as Roberts and Laign were led down the aisle by their respective brothers, Lawrence E. Roberts, Jr., and Laign’s own brother. Sally-Ann Roberts, a sister of Roberts, read from the Bible, while Dorothy Roberts performed “Blessed Assurance.”
The ceremony ended with an upbeat rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” and the newlyweds hosted their immediate family for tea sandwiches, lemonade, and iced tea at their home after the exchanging of traditional vows. On the couple’s special weekend, even some unpredictable weather in the northeast was unable to dampen their joy.
