The CW has decided to cancel a number of their shows, including Roswell, New Mexico. Similarly, after only one season, Naomi and 4400 joined the ranks, and after four seasons, In the Dark will air its final season on June 6.
The upcoming season of Roswell, New Mexico, set for release on June 6, 2022, has been announced to be the series finale. This 2019 series is based on Melinda Metz’s Roswell High books for young adults. Let’s take a look at the reasons behind Roswell, New Mexico’s unexpected cancellation of Season 5.
Why Is Season 5 of Roswell, New Mexico Not Happening?
The CW announced on May 12, 2022, that they would not be renewing their funding for Roswell, New Mexico after season 4 and there will be no Roswell New Mexico season 5. Since the show’s demise was revealed after the season finale had already been shot, it’s still uncertain if those episodes would actually serve as a series finale and will not be reviving Season 5 of Roswell New Mexico.
Warner Bros. Entertainment and CBS Entertainment Group own The CW and are responsible for the network’s programming, which includes the commissioning and airing of the show.
While The CW has typically renewed its shows until they reached a logical end in previous years, the network is now for sale and will likely undergo significant changes.
In a shocking move, The CW canceled a number of its most popular shows. The CW’s recent cancellation announcement includes seven series and Roswell, New Mexico Season 5 being one of them. In an unprecedented decision, the network has canceled several long-running dramas, including Charmed, Dynasty, 4400, Naomi, In the Dark, and Legacies.
After the news, Rosewell, New Mexico showrunner Julia Plec tweeted, “It’s the Red Wedding at WBTV/CW today. Much more to say, but not today. Loads of gratitude coming for fans and cast and crew in future tweets. But today, we mourn.”

Season 4 Plotline
Season 3 of “Roswell, New Mexico” ended with a lot of unanswered questions for viewers, some of which will hopefully (probably) be addressed in Season 4. The identity of the woman searching for Liz remains a mystery, as is the role played by Appleby’s character, a woman named Allie who claims to be Liz’s former teacher. While Hollier has been mum about the identities of the two women, he did provide some insight into the future season from the perspective of other characters.
Even though Liz and Max shared a kiss for the first time, Hollier warned that their future together would be difficult. “He also stated that “growing the characters a little bit and giving them new issues” were among the other aims of the project. Just because you find the one you’ve been looking for doesn’t guarantee life will be perfect from then on. As you develop, you’ll face new tests.” Hollier also added that although antagonist Jones (also played by Nathan Dean Parsons) has finally been taken care of, his legacy persists. “He went on to say, “We’ve gone on to new projects, so Jones won’t be going around as our villain anymore, but he made a significant impression.” So, enjoy the show to the fullest as Roswell New Mexico Season 5 isn’t happening.
