Boston Red Sox P Chris Sale Suffers Broken Wrist in Bike Accident, Out Remainder of Season
Chris Sale, a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, will miss the rest of the season after undergoing season-ending surgery on Monday to repair a broken right wrist.
The Red Sox expects Sale to be ready for the 2023 season after he suffered a broken wrist in a bike accident on Saturday.

For Sale, this is just the latest setback in a long series of setbacks due to injury. In 2021, Sale appeared in nine games and started two postseason games for the Boston Red Sox after missing the entire 2020 season because of Tommy John’s surgery.

Despite Sale’s best efforts, he was placed on the 15-day disabled list after breaking a finger in a July start against the Yankees. This was Sale’s first start since he was sidelined for the first three months of the season with a stress fracture in his ribs.
“You couldn’t make this up,” chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said, according to The Boston Globe. “We’re relieved this wasn’t worse. … It’s been such a run of bad luck for him and for us.”
Sale’s Boston career ends after just two starts and 5.2 innings of work.
With Red Sox Triple-A affiliate Worcester in early July, Sale drew attention for his rehab start. Sale became so enraged that he tore apart a television in the clubhouse after he was removed from the game in the fourth inning, after allowing three hits and five walks.
On the following day, Sale apologized for the outburst.
“I acted like an idiot last night,” said Sale, according to WHDH Boston. “Seven-year-old temper tantrum. It’s not something I’m proud of, not something I want to do. Stuff happens. Got to get it out.”
