Ann Renee Drew Obituary: Have A Look At Her Journey of Life!
Ann Renee Drew, a resident of Butte, Montana, died away before dawn on March 23, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Ann was an avid gardener with a golden heart and green eyes. Ann Schye was born to Ivan and Rosalie Schye on January 21, 1945, in Westby, Wisconsin.
Of her four siblings, she was the eldest. Growing up on the farm with her family and friends was a wonderful experience for Ann. Her relationship with her grandmother, Bertha Fremstad, was incredibly close. Westby is a typical tiny Norwegian town of history, customs, and culture. Ann passed those customs on to her children and grandchildren with love.
Have A Look at Her Life Story
Ann received her Bachelor of Science in Library Science from The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. She was an active member of Alpha Xi Delta. There, she met and wed the man she would later call “her soul mate,” Douglas Drew. Doug was working toward a doctorate and looking for teaching positions, which took him and his wife to different parts of the world.
One of Ann’s favorite times was the year she spent living in Norway. She has also called Montana, New Orleans, and Wyoming home. Before settling in Butte in 1977, Ann worked as a teacher of English and in various library capacities, including as the city librarian in Laramie, Wyoming. She retired in 2007 after 27 years of active service as the Butte Public Library’s Executive Director.
Ann and Doug’s retirement years were filled with travel to places as diverse as Australia, Italy, and Alaska. Ann was a devoted friend, family member, and wife. She enjoyed lying in the sun with a good book, tending to her garden, taking long walks, going on vacation, and visiting with her grandchildren and dogs.
The Theatre Studies Bookclub was one of the first in Butte, and Ann was a devoted member. She attended services at Gold Hill Lutheran. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to helping others in need. Ann participated in many community organizations, including the Butte Kiwanis Club, the Butte Food Bank, and the Butte Archives.
Ann regularly carried a spare bag on her daily walks to pick up trash she encountered. We will all miss Ann very much. Ann’s husband, Butte native Douglas Drew, survives her. Her Morgantown, West Virginia-based daughter Julie, son-in-law Jeff, and their children Conner, Jordan, and Sophia. Her Butte, Montana-based daughter Jessica, son-in-law Ben, and granddaughter Drew. Paul Schye, Susan and her husband, Stanley Dodge, and Jon and his wife, Patsy Schye.
