The Cozy Los Angeles Home of Viola Davis and Julius Tennon
Barnaba Fornasetti’s cloud wallpaper covers the walls of the combined living and dining area at the Los Angeles home of actor/producers Viola Davis and Julius Tennon. The renowned pattern is contradictory in that it conveys both peace and chaos, making it a perennial favorite among designers and design snobs.
The soft, dreamlike quality of the cloudscape is heightened by the faint grisaille color palette, which is only visible from a distance.
On second glance, the sky takes on a stormy appearance. The design successfully depicts two seemingly incompatible illusions: the raging storm and the peaceful eye at its center. Davis and Tennon lived in their Toluca Lake home with their 12-year-old daughter, Genesis, for about five years before beginning a makeover with LA designer Michaela Cadiz.
The Fornasetti pattern pairs well with the home’s multifaceted personality. Despite having a strong dislike for mess, they want a less stark and austere atmosphere in their home.
