Black Mirror Season 6 Coming to Netflix: Is It Confirmed?
Black Mirror hasn’t had a new season on Netflix for nearly three years now. According to the latest rumors, Netflix is working on a sixth season of the show after years of impasse. Here’s what we’ve learned so far.
No matter how many other streaming services try their hand at anthology programming, such as CBS All Access (now Paramount+) recreating The Twilight Zone and Hulu’s attempt at Into the Dark, the Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones-created series remain among the best on Netflix right now.
The fifth season’s ratings did not fare as well as the previous four. There are two possible explanations for this: either there are fewer episodes or the episodes themselves are of a different quality. In the third episode, Miley Cyrus plays a pop singer and has the lowest rating of all prior Black Mirror episodes.

Although the show first debuted on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, Netflix exclusively acquired it starting with season 3 and has continued to stream it further.
On the 5th of June, 2019, Netflix released the first three episodes of Season 5 of the show.
Black Mirror Season 6 Renewal Status
Season 6 of the show is currently under development but there have been no formal announcements made with regard to the renewal.
Due to disagreements with the IP owner, Endemol Shine Group, the future of the series has been put on hold. When Annabel Jones and Charlie Brooker both left Endemol Shine Group to form their own new firm (with Netflix’s financial support and an overall output pact), those disputes seemed to come to a head. Since then, things have been pretty quiet on Black Mirror.
A “landmark deal” between Netflix and Brooker and Jones, who will take majority ownership in a new firm named Broke and Bones, was signed in July 2020. Since signing the contract, they’ve produced the interactive series Cat Burglar and Attack of the Hollywood Cliches!, as well as Death to 2020 and 2021.
However, if Netflix and Endemol cannot come to a deal, the license for Black Mirror will remain with the former company.
Deadline stated:-
“Three sources said that Netflix and Endemol Shine have held talks about transferring the brand, but an agreement is still thought to be some way off. In the meantime, there is nothing stopping Brooker and Jones from bringing their distinctive style to other dystopian dramas, but they just won’t be badged as Black Mirror.”
Soon after the premiere of season 5 on Netflix, the show’s creators were upbeat about the show’s future. “If we cast someone like Obama, it would be great,” Charlie Brooker stated in an interview with Yahoo.
In 2021, we learned that a spinoff of Black Mirror might be in the works. A follow-up to the USS Callister episode that aired in season 4 has been listed in production listings by Netflix.
After that, things were quiet until May 2022, when Variety reports that Netflix has signed a deal for a sixth season of the show (Banijay and Netflix declined to comment for their story).
They stated, “It’s been almost three years since Season 5 of the dystopian drama premiered on the streaming service in June 2019, but sources indicate that a new anthology series of “Black Mirror” is shaping up, and casting is now underway.
While details about specific stories are being kept under lock and key, Variety understands that Season 6 will have more episodes than Season 5…
… A source close to the production tells Variety that the latest season is even more cinematic in scope, with each installment being treated as an individual film. This is, of course, in line with recent seasons of “Black Mirror,” for which episodes usually exceeded 60 minutes and had incredibly high production values.”
While we wait for more details, we can safely assume that Netflix will be bringing back Black Mirror for a sixth season.

Black Mirror Season 6 Another Interactive Episode
The producers of Black Mirror explored whether they will return to the interactive special format on Netflix that they pioneered with Bandersnatch.
“There is no arguing that if you are going to make an interactive episode, it has to explain itself. If you don’t have a compelling narrative rationale for using it, it’s just a gimmick.”
Brooker has said that he intends to keep the two happy in their new home, thus there are no plans for a sequel to San Junipero. However, as far back as October 2016, it was revealed that White Bear and Be Right Back, two earlier episodes, had ideas for sequels thrown around.
In addition, Broke and Bones have hired Russell McLean, who will be “focused on creating interactive projects” in the future as part of the new deal.
Black Mirror Season 6 Cast
Season 6 of Black Mirror’s creators, Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, is still unknown. Endemol Shine Group’s House of Tomorrow (where the show was produced) fired Brooker and Jones in January 2020 for unclear reasons.
In any case, given that Netflix made a one-time investment in Brooker and Jones in July 2020, it’s possible that the two may return.
